Maiden Voyage On New Sov.-GT:

Sunday Morning, I took my new Sov.-GT on its maiden voyage, and the trip was not disappointing. After (5) yrs. experience with my MINELAB EXCALIBURS, and some great advice from Rick(ND)/Plugger in CAL. There was almost NO LEARNING CURVE for me. My first of (3) coins was a HOME RUN by my standards. It was a 1910 Barber Dime, that was SO COATED with DIRT, that it could not be identified as a dime, and I'm still trying to find a SAFE WAY to CLEAN IT, so that I do Scratch or Mar the surfaces. It was only about 4-5 inches deep, and it locked on my SunRay DTI-III Meter at 179-180, mainly locking on 180. The other (2) coins for the day were just pennies, a 32cal. brass casing, and some scrap copper, and naturally some trash. This old farm location has not really produced any good coins or relics, until the Barber Dime. No old buttons or musketballs, which really surprises my hunting partner and I. I have only detected this property two other times, and nothing good except one Wheatie, and some brass rifle casings. The soda and beer cans are buried pretty deep. I dug some down 12 inches. But, that was with my FISHER UNITS, which only has (4) tone ID, and they especially LOVE Screwcaps/Cans, and Bottle Caps. I also dug a couple of deep soda cans, but I pretty much figured that out as I was digging them, but nothing like what I would dig with my FISHER CZ-70PRO. HH

Welcome to the GT club. 1910 Barber Dime. a great find. The first of many good finds with the GT for you, I'm sure.

IH ,copper coins. and others down here in NWF that are old and in the ground for a long time are just about impossible to clean-up, without damaging the coin. I've tried olive oil, the soda thing, boiling in Arm /Hammer laundry powder, boiling in Hydrogen Peroxide, You name it. The only thing I haven't tried is Electrolysis cleaning. May give it a try as nothing else seems to work. If you know of or hear of a good coin cleaning method please POST it.

Seems there are many new GT owners out swinging. I hope you and the others will post your finds. Finds are good for all.
Do the GTthing Don.
