Magnets in scoop

Where do you guys mount your magnets in your scoop? What magnets do you use?
I was thinking about getting some of the flat thin magnetic material that they use for the signs that people make and stick on the side of their cars. I was going to cut it the diameter of the entire bottom of the scoop and then cut out the holes to line up with the scoop holes. So then the entire bottom would be a magnet. What do you think?

I would suggest that you find an old Microwave along the side of the road or on Freecycle.com. I found mine on the street curb.
A small 5000 watt unit will be ok.. Discharge the unit and inside a sturdy metal case will be 2 Nice round magnets. I use only one in my scoop and use the nylon tie wraps to fasten it to the scoop. It will hold alot of fishing hook, and small pieces of medal.

I would get some rare earth magnets and E6000 them or epoxy glue them to the back of the bottom or at least past half way back. The rare earth magnets won't lose their strength in the water.

A little pricey, but it works great... Have one in each of my scoops. just silicone to the bottom. If it is iron, it is sticking to that magnet. Good way to gauge your beaches black sand content :)

You can also get rare earth magnets from a discarded computer hard drive. They are small and light. Epoxy or silicone them to the bottom of the scoop and away you go. These things are so strong its hard to get the iron fragments off. Small auto speakers work good too. Take the magnet apart from the back and tie strap it to the bottom of the scoop.
