magnetometers?

I bought an fx3, but haven't used it other than a few runs in the back yard. Our MD club does forensic work with local law enforcement on occasion and it seemed like a good tool to have on hand. I'd like to hear if/how anyone is using them too.:fisher:

I have XP GMP detector, Koshey PI detector and DeepGeotech magnetometer. I believe that the magnetometers undeservedly forgotten, as a tool for finding large iron objects , because no one can compare with them in depth of detection.

This is a small test of DEEPGEOTECH magnetometer:

(sorry only russian languge)

depth:
Shovel : 5 m
Revolver: 1.6 m
Damscus knife: 1 m

I agree with you and saw one in use on a site on a Viking trade route into Russia but for the hobby metal detectorist the main use is to avoid iron either by having one built into the coil as with the Detech SSP's or as an add on for non discriminating pulse machines such as that made by Reeve Jones in Australia. Even the SSP's go far deeper than most would want to dig.

Are you using yours on Second World War battle sites or older areas ?

I'm not familiar with the Koshey PI. Is it a hoard hunter or just a standard pulse ?

I do not know what type of magnetometer used in Detech SSP, I think that this is a magneto-resistive sensor, in any case, it is much less sensitive than the proton magnetometer.
Yes, Koshey PI is a standart PI detector wit coils from 0,2m to 2 m

Magnetometers fully utilize their potential for finding major goals - a tank in a swamp or a plane at the bottom of the lake, or Spanish geleon in the Caribbean Sea, and to search for voids in the soil (caves, mines, wells, foundations).
But as seen in this video, small objects such as knife is also determined.

If we talk about archeology, the iron is always accompanied by nonferrous metals - treasure never buried just in the ground, it was a metal-covered chest, a bucket or a safe
