magnet on scoop

OK I understand the benefit of magnets on scoops BUT In the lakes I detect , the magnets get to be 4 x theyre size with an encrustment of fine iron particles , then no longer work ,until cleaned off . This happens within 10 minutes of detecting . Anyone got any bright ideas on how to get around this problem ? Still hunting up in Ontario Canada lakes getting cold .

Given those conditions, you may be better off getting rid of the magnet and building a floating sifter with mesh sized so that hair pins and earring studs don't fall through. If you do a search here you should find several variations of designs for floating sifters.

Might be beneficial if possible to cover magnets with cheap plastic grocery bag and pull off when it gets loaded. Notice I said if possible.

mike k. neodymium magnet is required if you use a PI metal detector.

if a lot of fine iron chips to remove it with a rag with a flat plane of the magnet ....

magnet can be several times lower in nitrocellulose lacquer, and you get a smooth, thin protective layer

ps: if you do not use the PI, use a floating strainer or bodyboard

Yes, I actually purchased 2 from harbor freight. I ran a bolt through to tighten down. Then I filled all the open are with silicone. I let it dry over night. About 4 buck at Walmart for the GE clear. It works well! The silicone does not allow so much build up!

I also use this to ally my coil covers. It stops sand and water travel.

Contact me I will send a pic.

I will certainly try the silicone . As it is now , 1 neo magnet . the size of a quarter , is the size of an egg , in 5 minutes .,with the iron buildup . Thats lake Erie for you .

I take the Magnets from Old Microwave Ovens found on the curb. I then enclosed them in a Small poly bag and then use ( 2 ) sturdy Zip Ties to secure in the bottom of my Babbs Scoop.
