Macro ?....

So, I am reading on this Dimage 5 again. The closest to an object you can get in macro is 9.8 inches and the macro switch will not even work till you are zoomed in 200mm-250mm. Is this close enough to get good coin shots? I see some cameras focus down to .8". I do have a set of close up lenses but still, I don't want to use them if I don't have to.
Thanks

My C2500L has macro and super macro but neither works unless you are not using the zoom at all. You can put the lens right up to the part though.. Never measured but I'm sure it's 1/2 inch or so... Here's a shot of a 2.5 inch drive's business end I shot in a hurry tonight. I shot an earlier picture for a customer without the dime to show a buyer what pins I was talking about. I used an opaque filter over the flash. This camera just gets it done for me and will focus even in the dark with it's infra red add-on light... I did use the macro lens here but it is not needed with this camera unless you are needing it's snap-on opaque filter to dampen a flash.
And if you listen to Rick Martin's afternoon lighting lecture you won't believe the quality you get on these closeups. This is a flash and a good macro can help you on more than your hobby... In fact sometimes I take a picture with my macro to read the inscription off of the inside of a ring. My eyes even with glasses seem to have a tough time on some of the fine print.
Guvner..

for as old as they are now. But they take damn good pictures. If I could find one in the $300-$350 range, I would jump on it, but they go $450+ on ebay, used or refurbished. I have seen a few go for $380-$400, but now that I am looking I see none in that range.
But you know another thing about that Dimage 5, there at any given time is only 1 on Ebay. I can't decide if that is a good thing or not. You know how the X-1 probe is so good you never see one used, that is what I am wondering about the dimage 5, but it also could mean they are junk!
Awesome closeup shot though, I saw the closeup of the walkers you took the one time that were great also.
