Macro flower photo.............

Kelley (Texas)

New member
I took this photo using a Nikon Coolpix 5700 digital camera in AUTO MODE using only the zoom to bring the flower closer to me. The auto flash had to be turned off because it kept popping up because the shutter speed was only 1/60 sec. I am still trying to learn how to use this camera, but I am making some progress. Please have a great day! Kelley (Texas) :)

1) This looks like a pretty long shot to be a macro. I don't know the technical definition of how close you have to be in order to be considered a macro. Why do you consider this shot a macro?

2) Why did you suppress the flash? The lighting looks pretty subdued, either a very cloudy day, heavy shadows, or late in the day. The flash may have made the colors a little more vivid. For close subjects I use a flash outdoors whenever I can. The fill flash really brings out the colors.

In any case, looks like you have some beautiful flowers to practice on. We've already got the first leaves falling up here. I'm hoping to get out and catch some of the autumn colors this year. I keep hoping that you will post some Texas landscapes and ranch photos. You live in a beautiful piece of God's country that is a world away from mine. I'd love for you to share it in pictures with us sometime.

Just ignorance on my part in calling it a macro photo...just was not thinking when I posted the photo.

The first few photos that I took were with the auto flash, but they were way under exposed so I took a few again with the flash turned off. I do not yet know how to adjust the exposure when processing the photos with my photo computer program, thus my decision to take them again without using the flash. Digital photography is still a learning experience with me.

As soon as I am able to do so, I plan on taking ranch and wildlife photos. Nimrod, thanks for viewing my posted message, please have a great day! Kelley (Texas) :)
