Machine broken? Noise cancel doesn't help. Sometimes I have to turn my machine off and back on again to regain threshold and stop the falsing...

I don't know what the problem is. This problem used to be solved with noise cancel now it seems the only way is to reboot by shutting machine off.
Has anyone encountered this and if so how do you fix it?
Thanks,
Greg
P.S. I'm going to tear it down and give it it's yearly cleaning and see if this does anything

Greg,
I've had a few times where the machine just goes crazy and starts chirping like when you have the sens way to high. Usually happens when I'm around a noise source, but even then turning down the sens or moving away from the noise doesn't stop it. Sometimes have to cycle power several times to get it to quiet down.
No ideas why this happens

turning the machine on, with the machine on, pull the battery pack out. This will shut everything off and reboots the program. I've done this 2 or 3 times with my XS over the past 4 years when my XS loses it's mind and nothing else works. Just my 2 cents worth.

You didn't mention it, but this is just case you have the X-1 probe and its switch box on the search upper shaft.
You may also want to try an alternative battery pack.
You also haven’t mentioned that you have done a system reboot to bring the Explorer back to the onboard defaults by holding down the power button on the detector during the boot up..
Other than doing what or the others have advised,it would require a different approach , like sending it in to Minelab.
There is one other REMOTE possibility that I am aware of and that I have experienced, but you would only consider doing this only as a last resort and only if your detector is out of warranty. Doesn't involve much, basically opening up the control box and inspecting to see if "things" are in "order".
Like certain wires are still properly insulated.
If there is any indication of such a problem it is quite obvious and you should be able to tell.
Maybe take a digi pic and of your viewing perspective of your Explorers internals at the point of when you just pry it open( you do not need to pull apart the shell TOO much , just enough to be able two see those two large thick white wires that go to and from the coil connector to the pcb. Then post this or these picks IF you think you can't tell.

I had the same problem today using my X5. Tried everything but the problem always came back. I stripped the coil cover and found water in there. Seems like I forgot to drain it the last time I cleaned the thing. Problem solved. Maybe yours is the same. bing

Mine acts up like that sometimes, generally when starting out and i think the temp differences from inside to out causes condensations... also a dirty or wet x1 probe switch will give you falsing as will a bit of moisture in the, if its teh x1 switch sometimes just switching it on and off a few quick times will cause it to make better contact

3 old junk jewelery, 12 wheats, a silver dollar size $1.00 trade token to a nearby long gone general store dated 1909, a play dime grrrrrrr, crusty old lighter, and a 42-D merc bringing total to 6 silvers now. Gotta love the variety that comes from old homes...to bad this one is LOADED with shallow beer tabs(the ones that aren't supposed to come off )
Now if the other half of the property is holding another 6 I'll be REAL happy. It's a sideyardbackyard type area so kids may have played there and lost tons of loot hopefully.
HH and thanks for all the tips,
Greg

I haven't had that problem since I ran a small bead of RTV around the seam. Can't take the cover off easily any more, but I don't have to - Nothing gets in!
Good Point Juan,
