MA LC 1 hour hunt

So, I was in MA this weekend for my son's hockey tournament (they took 2nd and my kid got thrown out at the end of the semi finals). Across the street from my fathers house, there's an old school that;s been boarded up for many years. I have been there and my brother has been there and found a few silvers, but haven't spent much time there.

I had an hour to kill so I went over. I found a wheat, a live round and a few coins, but the deep signals were non existent. I did hear a good sound with the "warble" although each swing turned to a null. There was on small direction where the sound came through and pinpoint didn't work 'cause it pulled me to the iron. I have found many coins like this since taking Bryce's advice on it; taking a small chance (the digging is easy out there).

So because I got the sound in 2 directions from one angle, I dug a plug. Pulling 6 or 7" of dirt out was very east, 1 shovel full, and I saw the remnants of a large green disc. I thought, wow, I expected a merc or something, not a LC, but this is what I had in my hand.

This needs to soak in some oil for a bit, but I am going to say its a matron head, probably ~1816- ~ 1830,

I was very happy as this was the 1st dig at the site and there weren't many.

I have found only 9 silvers this year and my best being this well worn 1896O barber dime at a cemetery! Ok, I would never hunt a cemetery except this one....this one was converted to an urban park many years ago...confirmed by the blue historic sign in the middle of it. Not a large park, maybe 400'x400' but gave up a little silver and some indian heads (plus this copper key chain?) amongst all the kids playing....they sure were inquisitive little guys this trip......

Hope you all have a great MD year!

Dang...you guys finding the "largies"....I envy you:drool:

Nice hunt Aaron...and I'm glad the iffy dig with the tiny "warble" paid off. :clapping:

Nice finds - especially the Large Cent. I can't remember the last time I found one. Nice assortment of finds too. That copper key ring thing is neat and looks old. Is it small enough to be from a charm bracelet? HH

Another LC found.....man, I'd love to find one...but not likely up here. Although I did find an 1865 2-center last year..

Congrats !!

Thanks for sharing. Great finds and wish we had some of those LC`s down here !

Yes, it could be part of a charm bracelet...a little bit of a ball and chain, however, it may be.

Jeez, with all the nice comments about the LC, I am feeling 2 things...1. I am glad you are not hunting in my parks and 2. I feel a bit like the guys who post roman coins from Europe....I know how I feel when they show up with those magnificant finds.

You guys should take a road trip.....I am sure you would kill it up here in NY and New England!

Congrats on the LC and the Silver your finding! Looks like your learning your Se real well.
