M6 question

I am 3 weeks into my first MD..M6 and I have a question.
I was hunting the other day and came across a relatively strong and repeatable 94 on my screen that kept reading $1.
I pinpointed at 7 but when I dug, there wasn't anything there. I put the coil across the hole and the signal became weaker but after a few minutes, the signal was gone over the hole. What did I do wrong?

Your auto track may have eliminated your weak signal. On those you can put your tracking in the lock position.

Yes, as khouse stated, if running autotrac mode it will tune out the signal if kept over the target it thinks its ground mineralization and tunes it out.. It also could be a large piece of iron, aluminum or something way down that the VDI and depth are off.. It could be down as far as 10-14" Keep digging.. Another thought is small iron particles from rust that is broken up by digging that causes the signal get weaker.. Get a rare earth magnet to take with you.. Great for picking out small iron when swept over the dug soil.. Keep at it you never know!!
