M6 or 6000 Pro - Depth Questions, etc...

Hi,

I have just started following this forum on the new M6 detector. How would users rate the depth of detection with the M6 vs the old 6000 Pro models, even the newer XL PRO.

I have been looking for a used 5900/6000 Pro SL as I know someone who can do a mod and add a 4 tone ID on it. But it has to be the older units that took the 4 C cells.

I always like the analog meter on the White's 6000 series. I like tone ID as well. Now I have a chance to have the best of both worlds on an analog machine.

I also have been looking at and have a chance to buy a used Compass Coinscanner with the depth mods.

The Compass runs on 13.77 kHz, the 6000 Pro at 6.59 kHz and now the new M6 at 14kHz. So I am wondering if the new M6 goes deeper and has good iron separation like the Compass models. The M6 has the Tone ID which I like and seems simple enough to set up and run etc.,

I have owned the DiPro Series 3, XL Pro, Quantum XT, DFX, Explorer II and the Quattro. I like the Minelabs but they are getting a bit to heavy for my shoulder to swing. The Minelabs do go deep. However the old XL Pro remains one of my favorites.

I'm not sure if I should go ahead with the Pro SL and do the mods for the Tone ID, or add just a few dollars more and give the M6 a try.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance to everyone.

I have the 5900/DI Pro SL. Your reference to mods got my attention. PM me please. I would like to hear more.

you can't use just any 5900 or 6000 Di Pro SL. He doesn't do them on the last versions with the CB (Composit Board) circuitry. They had to be the earlier versions of those models with the XB circuitry and such.

I prefer the XL Pro's performance, overall, to the Matrix M6's performance, except for the fact that the M6 is a slow-motion design and that's better for most of the hunting I do.

I have put several Coin Scanner's to use, from the first ones they made to the better versions done by George Payne for Compass. But they are not made as well as they once were, and the company is just about history anyway.

The Minelab Explorer's have great silver-shooting ability, but their weight and poor blance is an issue with me as well.

I like the XLT and XL Pro more than the MXT, except for the MXT's ground tracking circuitry, which I prefer.

My personal battery has changed of late due to poor health and a need to cut weight and cush. I still have my modified White's IDX Pro that I keep a 4" coil mounted on and it is staying in my aresnal of detectors, joined my my Shadow X5, and Minelab X-Terra 50 and now the X-Terra 70. If White's comes out with something, anything, that can impress me as much, or more, as I am with my X-T 70, then I'll get another White's, but for now the modified IDX Pro is a unit I would put up against most other White's in actual in-the-field challenges.

See a local dealer and try out the ones you're wondering about. If they impress you more than the XL Pro, go for it. If not, grab an XL Pro while they are still 'getable.'

I have not used the XL models, so I can't answer on that, but my M6 seems to be every bit as deep as my Sovereign XS2A Pro in the areas that I hunt. The ground tracking feature is a real plus, and the ability to hit the really small targets is amazing. I hope this helps.
