M6 / MX5

Pepa

Can anyone tell me if there is any difference in depth between these two? Using the standard coil that comes with the unit. (9.5 with M6, and 10" spider with MX5). Has anyone done an actual side by side test? Either in ground or air test. (at 100% sen.). I know it will be close but, I've narrowed it down to these two and really can't decide...

I did side by side and mx5 was a little deeper on all targets. Even on tiny gold. Mx5 is a threshold based detector and my experience is it should be a little deeper than a non threshold unit. As far as rugged if felt to me like the mx5 is more rugged and more water resistant.

Pepa,i think in real terms you won't find a lot of difference between the two detectors regarding depth.I use the M6 and it will keep up with most machines if you set it up correctly, which is very simple by the way.Your choice will boil down to the features, simplicity of operation, ruggedness etc, etc.I owned an mxt and the M6 was just as deep.......I don't believe that the mx5 is deeper than an mxt.
I prefer the M6 out of personal choice and i can't say that it's better than the mx5 because i've never used the mx5.I like the M6 because it has excellent all round performance both inland and on the beach. It has knobs and switches which I prefer(makes the detector feel better quality to me) and is the simplest detector to set up i've ever used.
The mx5 looks to be a good machine from what I have read and if it performs as well as the M6 you're going to be happy with it......i think you are on to a winner either way.

I second that, I crossed over from tesoro and the m6 fit the bill with knobs which I rather in most situations I'm sure the mx5 is a great machine also.

I'm commenting from owning the original MXT and th 6T which are very similar to the M6 and MX5. IMHO the metal versus plastic isn't an issue unless you're hard on equipment. The big differnce that I see and that may matter to some, is a very noticable difference in weight. I'll never see the lower end of 70 again and I much appreciate swinging a detector that is on the lighter side. I may sell or trade my 6t for tne MX5 so that I can use my MXT coils on it, which is a plus I think, for anyone wanting a backup to the series of detectors that use that line of coils.
