M6 - First Indian

Member
Well, I finally got an older coin. I have been metal detecting for a month now and today I dug an 1882 Indian at 5".
Now I have to go back and find the silver!
Np pic attached as I am having a hard time focusing the camera and the coin is a little hard to read.
Any camera ideas or or cleaning up an old Indian?

Try stabilizing the camera and put a magnifying glass just in front of the lens..Move both together till focused.. Try cleaning in instant mashed potatoes...Check every 30 minutes or so and use a soft bristle bush like a ladies makeup brush until you see little effect in cleaning.. To little cleaning is better than over cleaning..Congrats!! Knew you would like the M-6...

Thanks, Cosmic. It's a good feeling to pull a coin out that's 126 years old and I have only just started.
What about olive oil for the cleaning?

Lambo

Never!! It will weep out of the coin forever...Much better to use distilled water and wait for months then to use olive oil.. No longer recommended by pro's..

Make it like you were going to eat them and immerse it in the potatoes.. You can also make a slice in a potato and place it in the slice.. Just check it often so you don't over do it, as it will make it look rusty..
