M6 & Coil Question

I have been a M6 user for sometime now and thought of trying an after market coil....Any suggestions from anyone who uses these coils....

It would help if you gave us some indication of what type of detecting you do,i use after market coils on my DFX and most will fit the M6 as i understand it as well,of course i stand to be corrected on that one. Most folks say that factory made coils are better than after market coils,in theory i would agree as they would be matched to the detector but in practice alot of the after market can be as good as or infact some are even better than stock coils

As you use a Whites machine, the company themselves have just started offering some after market coils for certain models within the range, which coils are suggested and for what machines i dont have a clue.

Without having any idea what type of detecting you do or the ground conditions is very hard to suggest a specific coil/s for your machine, would i suggest using the after market coils my reply would be a massive 'YES'.

I use mainly Detech coils on my DFX and also the Hotshot coil, the only factory coil that i use these days is the 5.3 coil as that is good at what it was designed for.

Of course these are juts my thoughts, some folks may differ in replies.

Each year between harvest and planting, I have access to 75 acres of farm land in upstate New York. The presents of people living and fighting go back 200 plus years. The ground conditions vary from neutral to many hot rocks...I have yet to find anything of value and am looking for a after market coil to cover ground...

My favorite coil on the m6 is the eclipse 10x6 dd coil. I use for park and beach hunting. Goes plenty deep , good coverage and good seperation on targets. Use to have a 8x6 sef coil but sold it. Didn't see much difference between the two but would rather just keep the factory coil with it. Just my 2 c.

As far as aftermarket coils the 12 x 10 SEF is a good, big aftermarket coil. If I need a big coil I like it better then the D2 and 12" Concentric. The coil balances well ( for a big coil) if you don't want a coil that big the 8 x 6 SEF will work well to.

I use the SEF 8X6 on my Whites M6 most all the time and it works real well for me . I wouldn't say its better than any that whites makes but the SEF is a DD type coil so it separates good in trash and the depth is good also .I have dug indian head pennies at 7 to 8 inches with it . Its lighter in weight to most of whites bigger coils which is good for me as I'm old and weak now days . I haven't tried the 10X12 or any other off brand coils beside that one so maybe some of the other guys can help with info on them .

Whites just introduced the Detech 13 inch Ultimate Coil for the V-rated detectors which includes the M6. From what I am seeing it is the bomb!

I use the 10X12 SEF coil almost exclusively on my MXT and the 6X8 SEF and the 5.3 on my M6. If you want to go deep then the 10X12 SEF or the 13" Ultimate would be the ticket. I love the 10X12 SEF, it's an awesome coil and think you will like it on the M6. To me it is easier to swing than the 950 and is night and day from the 12 inch coil.
