M6 chatter question

dirtmaster

New member
I got a new M6 and got a question. I know the M6 is supposed to run quiet but when I run the sensitivity at the triangle it chatters. This happens even when air testing. I have to cut the sensitivity down halfway to quiet the chatter. Could this be a coil problem?

Lots of views, no responses. I guess no one uses an M6 or they know nothing about it. Thanks

It sounds below par for sure. If it does it at several, different locations and not just in one place, then EMI is likely not the problem. If you have coil cover on it, take it off clean it and see if it quietens down. It could easily be a coil too. Mine operates at the triangle and I test under power lines in my front yard all the time. martin

It sounds like it could be coil related and a call to White's is in order, but before you call, clean out your coil cover if you have one on.

Where were you detecting if you were near homes, power lines, cell phone towers etc may be reason for chatter, try out in woods and see if there is any difference. Try locking ground balance too. I have M6 and it is quiet when detecting unless gain is past preset.

Thanks for the responses. I took the M6 back out today to another place and it ran great at the preset sensitivity level. Must have been EMI or ground at the others. I love this machine.

I would have replied earlier but I was off on our hosted detecting group's Get-Away Outing for 2013 (see the post below from 'exploregon') and was out of internet range most of he time.

I did get a new M6 sold to a fellow on the outing, Gregg, who already has an excellent MXT Pro and Classic ID in his detector arsenal (both heir their appropriate 6

Thanks Monte for your input. I feel a lot better about the M6. At first I was concerned but that's just because its a different beast compared to what I am used to using. In the past I was a tradeaholic. Whenever I felt I could be doing better with another machine I would trade not realizing it was me not learning the machine properly. I since have learned the secret to detecting and it has cost me a lot of money for the lesson. Number one and foremost is get a decent machine you are comfortable with. Number two is hunt hunt hunt. Learn it. Become one with it. Listen to everything she is telling you and dig. This M6 I will keep forever. I am learning her language little by little. I am being as patient with her as she is me. I will master the M6. Thanks so much Monte.
