M6 challenges

Still new to TH'ng and using the M6 with 9.5 coil. Question/Challenge I have is I am not finding anything deeper than 6".
Sometimes I get a solid quarter reading but in pinpoint mode my bars don't go higher than half full or 6" deep and I never find a quarter or most of the time, even a target. I sweep the coil off the ground from 6" to 2' and if I am picking something up, I usually pass it up. It just seems my machine cannot pinpoint deeper than 6" or find coins deeper than that.
Does anyone using the M6 run into the same problems? Does your machine pinpoint accurately deeper than 6"

Lambo if I read your post correctly what you are finding are deep buried cans or similar targets. I believe you said you have the coil 6" above the ground and get a good signal. This usually is what happens on a deep can. The M6 reads it at 6" because the target is bigger than a coin and it is probably 10' or 12" deep. The same way a target smaller than a coin might read 4" and only be 1" deep. The pinpointing mode which is an all metal mode has no problem pinpointing well pass 6". HH Rob

I used to own a M-6 and no it will not find coin size objects deeper than 6" best to say 5" good strong signals and i hated the stock coil you would be better off whith the 6" coil for better pinponting and the same depth i also used the 6"x9 and it was good to 5"and covered much ground and was lite but the coil i fell in love whith for parks and tot lots was the 4x6 shooter i could get so close to fences and metal poles it was great i found tones of stuff whith it my gripe whith the m6 was it was to heavy for me and my jaket sleave would somtimes mess whith the knobs but the TID is great sometimes i wish i had it back you have sound and numbers whats nice is you can chose what you want to dig its a great machine most detectors dont go much deeper than 6" especialsy if you are using small coils but i bet the xlt whith a 12" coil would get down thear 8" on coins or you may want to look at getting a x terra 70 or a teyjon i hunt whith a compadre and its max is 5" on coins same as my m-6 whith the 4x6 coil

I have many, many coins deeper then 6" measured... But most coins are less than that...

Soil type an ground moisture play a big part in how deep you can detect. I use the M6 and will in wet loamy soil detect coins at 8-9 in consistantly. When the ground dries up it or I'm in dense clay it want pick much up deeper the 4-5 in. Yep those cans will fool the little critter. If my M6 says quarter at 7 inches and I go that deep and there ain't nothing there, I repointoint the hole and if and if it still tells me 7 in, I know it's a deep can. Another thing to try is to turn up the sensitivity as high as possible without causing your detector to go unstable. If you get a faint but solid hit that registers deep, dig down aways then turn up you senc to max out and go over the hole, this will get you a much better single on a deep target. Hope this helps. Do you use a pinpointer? It might NOT be a deep can. How many of those have you dug under those conditions?
Just curious.

Lambo , Find a clean spot at the site you are hunting and perform a proper ground balance according to the manual, then lock the g/b off, center position. Not in auto track. Keep the coil as close to the ground as you can and your sweep should be about a two second sweep which is not too fast or too slow, you will learn the best sweep speed for your site after you get a few hours of use. For every inch you have your coil above the ground , you will lose about an inch and a half in working depth...make sure your coil wire is not loosely flopping around on your lower rod and the connector at the control box is in straight and finger tight..Also sensitivity affects the depth and also the volume on the M6. Keep the sens above 80 at all times and you should get good depth.Coins deeper than 6" will give a lower volume response, a weaker signal, so to speak. Thats why its important to keep the sensitivity adjusted high , so you can get the audio volume you need to hear the deep targets...if you can pick up a us qtr with air test at 9-10 inches your det is probably working right.. hope this helps a little....HH...Rich

I've dug more deep cans than a stray hound has fleas. I always dig but if I get to the depth my M6 tells me and there ain't nothing there I raise my coil till it's about a foot from the bottom of the hole, if I loose the single i"ll keep digging, it the signal stays strong you can bet your bottom dollar its a large deep target like a can. The M6 with the 5.3 should find coins at a depth of at least 6 inches. The stock coil should get at least 9 inches. I have a shooter coil and have gotten dimes at 6 inches easy. The 6X10,my deepest coin so far was at 9 inches. The M6 WILL detect coins deeper than 6 inches. They just have to be in the ground to detect them.
