M6 beach setting

Nailbender

New member
If I get some time this week I'm hoping to get to a fresh water beach. Is the beach setting on the M6 more for salt water or both. I didn't know if I should just lock the GB or use the beach setting. Dry sand use autotrac? Thanks.

Hi Nailbender,
I was reading some of your old postings. I have a 5,3 coil that I have only used a few times. $50.00 plus postage takes it. I only use the Hotfoot coil on my DFX. As for the M6 settings I wish I could help. Detector settings are controlled by your geographic location. East cost beach setting won

For freshwater locations just use the standard ground tracking setting. I prefer to establish a good working GB and the Lock the toggle. It's easy to update, if needed.

Thanks Monte, I havn't had alot of time on the new M6 but so far it's working out great for me. It's alot differant from the Land Star for sure but in a very good way.
By the way how was vacation? Do any hunting?

Had to cut is short by about 4 days due to some bleeders in my right eye. Spent a full day at the VA Hospital in SLC and then headed home to get it taken care of, hopefully today. Only got minimal detecting in as there was a "convention" going on at my favorite ghost town, or at least it seemed like it. :(

I got to see a couple of potential sites, or at least a 'left-eye view," and look forward to my next trip to Utah as one of my sons has rounded up a number of places for us to hunt in the small town he lives in. But where he is winter comes early, and long, so it won't be until late spring before I can get back there. He's pulled a couple of silver dimes, two V nickels and an Indian head i the limited time he' hunted around two of the sites. Maybe two hours, total.

Keep working and learning the M6. get to know when to and not-to use the audio Tone ID, as well as when to Lock the GB setting and when to let the unit auto-trac. The M6 is a serious performer. Best of success to you.

About the only time I don't use the tones is in really trashy areas just to much squeeking and squaling. I'm buying a 5.3 from Terry for the trash zones, I know wnat a fan you are of that coil and I'm sure I'll like it too. Next year I may get a 1400 DD to go deep, there is one on Ebay now but I need that 5.3 first.
Hope your eye gets better.

dense iron trashed sites is also what I prefer to do. I like the Tone ID option when just cruising for modern change, especially in grassy sites and such. Just remember to work the coil slow and methodically, overlapping, when you hit the trashier, multi-target sites. The MXT and M6 are great at working coin signals out of trashy parking strips and other confined spaces.

Monte

PS: Thanks for the well wishes. I have a 7:40 AM appointment with the retina surgeon today and hope to be functioning well by the weekend so I can admire any silver coins I might find. :)

Hi Monte,
Hope all works well for you and you get back up to par quickly.
Kind Regards,
Steve and Family

Hey Nailbender,
I'm glad you asked that question, I too own the M-6 and have'nt yet beach hunted and would have asked same. Thank you Monte for input, we have several fresh water beaches in this area and have been wanting to try this type of hunting. Can't seem to pull myself off forgotten parks or scout camps.HH
