M6 and MXT users, have any of you used

both machines??
I primarily use my XL Pro, I enjoy hunting old farm, home places...usually in a plowed field or woods. But, as much as I like my XL Pro, I am investigating, considering the thought of replacing him with a newer machine as parts are becoming slim for that magical machine. I will keep it, as back up.
OK, I have a M6, but use it in nasty town lots with a small coil.
So, Ive been reading, usually where I get into trouble, lol. Thought I wanted a Minelab Sov,but have decided against it. I now am considering a MXT or, ahem, sorry, Tejon.
The MXT has caught my attention with its relic mode and the fact it is not a silent hunter.
Anyways, if any of you have used both M6 and MXT and like to hunt similar to what I enjoy, would you please share with me your experiences with both machines in that type of hunt, including the coils you use.
Im at a point, I feel I need to do something. I am very inexperienced with all the machines available today. Dont really know what to do or buy to be honest, I just know its time to find a replacement.
Thanks in advance,
John

Both the MXT and the XL Pro are in my arsenal, they both compliment each other beautifully! The XL Pro is a 4 filter machine and the MXT is more like 2 or 3.
The MXT has a faster recovery time in trash, super sensitive to small gold items. Whilst the XL PRO is for open fields relic, coin and ring hunting and is really hot on silver coins. It works nice on the beach too! Both have probably one of the most accurate discriminators made. Lots of information with coin depth features. They are simple to use with the knobs which I prefer (simplicity is efficiency).
With both you can specialize most any type of hunt, except diving. They are two of Whites best ever machines. Keep both if you can. The MXT would be way more versatile over the M6, so the MXT has my vote over the M6. I know for a fact, you would miss your XL Pro if you curbed it.:whites:

I've had at least 3 M6's and 5 MXT's. Enjoy them both and really with the MXT had some Tone ID feature like the M6, and that the MXT (or both) had a decent back-light.

The XL Pro, another one of my all-time favorite White's models, is very good for the type of hunting you do, and I have used them as well as XLT's for such work, mainly with a smaller-than-stock coil close to buildings and in heavy brush, but opt for the stock 950, usually, for the open plowed fields.

Good idea to hang onto it. As much as I like the XLT I have now, and even though it will probably be the next model they discontinue, I will keep it around and in-use. Complimented, naturally, my an MXT or ??? :)

Yep, it and an MXT would get the nod, with a 5.3 Eclipse coil or an after-market coil, when working trashy sidewalk & street repair, building tear-downs and similar urban sites, as well as homesteads, ghost towns and the like.

I like the option of Tone ID for some applications that the M6 offers, even though I usually don't hunt with Tone ID, just sometimes. I have used my MXT in some sites set-up similar to the M6 by reducing the Threshold tuner just to the point where it runs silent. But that capability is one of the things I like about the MXT. You can use the Threshold setting (I prefer) or reduce to to 'silent search,' all depending upon your preference at the time.

Of all the aftermarket coils, the 6" and 4

I really didnt think I wanted to take the time (via what I learned from reading these forums) to learn it. I work a lot of hours most weeks. Also, I have mixed feelings?? as to whether it would work well for the type hunting I do, because Ive been told its not good for plowed fields or something that has a thick cover of leaves, like in the woods and Ive been told that it will work well on plowed fields and the woods,so I just plain dont know. I dont know anyone, or even have a detector dealer in my neck of the woods. So far Whites has worked well for me. Ive even considered a Tejon. DO NOT read nothing into this, Im sure that is one hell of a detector, I just dont have anyone around me that can help me out. So, I was confused and decided to go with what I knew, thats all.
My time is limited,I know I will still have to learn the MXT or even a Tejon but they arent that far from what I use now.
If this sounds like Im confused it isnt far from the truth because I am,lol.
I hope this summed it up, sometimes its difficult for me to put my thoughts into words.
Thanks,
John

I had the MXT went to M6 for the tone ID and sheer simplicity.

Everyone who has the M6 seems to sure love it!

Hi Bowie,I was just curious because i own a sovereign gt myself,i've also owned the whites M6.I opted for the sovereign in the end due to the fact it will work the wet sand on a beach better than most machines and still be a fantastic inland machine.I've never found any ground that the sovereign will not cope with ploughed or otherwise and have used it in wooded areas that are carpeted with leaves on many occasions.Overall it's a fantastic detector. The whites M6 was a fantastic machine also.It has a build quality that is second to none,it was good in trashy areas and is as simple a machine as you'll ever likely use. It's ground tracking feature was also good keeping the machine stable in most conditions. The only issue with it for me was the weight but this was the direct result of the build quality so it did not bother me too much.If you choose the M6 or MXT you'll be getting a top class machine and i wish you every success with it.

Thanks Nauti Neil,
I already have the M6, just trying to find out more on the MXT in comparison of the two. I swing the XL Pro most days when I get to go out. When I pick up the M6 ,the M6 feels very light, lol.
I dont have any salt water beaches nearby, so I only hunt a few fresh water beaches from time to time and so far the M6 or XL Pro have worked fine on these beaches.
Monte pretty much enlightened me,the guys a wealth of knowledge and can give a pretty darn good objective view on a machine. He will tell you if it was good for him and his hunting types. Plus what I got off the Soverign forum for the most part was well written with the strengths and weakness of the Sov.
If I ran across a good deal on a Sov GT with a meter and smaller coil I would go for it.
Thanks Nauti,
John

I have a M6 Matrix detector. I absolutely love it! I heard the MXT is very similar to the M6, however I don't know from experience. I have been trying to find a good DFX detector, but I am definitely content with the M6 and don't plan on getting rid of it any time soon!

I haven't found the MXT to be hard to master at all, but I've had a good bit of detector experience before picking one up. I really like it myself, but have no doubt that I could get along very well with the M6 as well.

Well, Im sure I can learn it easy enough to do the kind of detecting I do (MXT). While I do have a M6 and see the operational/functional differences in the two machines.
Just have it in the back of my mind that, one day in the probably not to distant future, it will be hard to get an XL Pro repaired because of parts.
So, I guess, I will just keep going as I am until I can make my mind up as to what I want to use as a replacement for my Pro.
I wish they would just add a Threshold and a control for the number of tones on the M6, almost forgot an all metal function also. Or, add the tone function to the MXT, two or four tones.
The M6 is a fun machine to swing,a bit lighter and different configuration on the rod set up.
Thanks for all the replies,
John

I have the M6 and its a turn key small block V8 and hammers the crap out of coins, rings, sliver, and finds small gold

I have used both machines and love them both. The tone ID on the M6 is just for the shallower targets as the VDI's are off a bit on the deep stuff. But for everyday hunting My opinion is the MXT can't be beat for a stater machine. Also with that new 10"DD coil it's like my MXT is taking steroids. That is one hot coil on this machine and really seems to ID things better a little deeper(could just be me). Price M6, more options MXT. I relic hunt and coin hunt and it has served me well.
