M6 and Bigfoot coil Question. Sorry I posted twice.

I use an MXT and Bigfoot coil to search sports fields and other open areas. A Bigfoot coil works differently on an MXT than on a DFX. With the MXT / Bigfoot combination, targets sound different under the front half of the coil verses the rear half. It took some time but I am now accustomed to the differences in sound.

For a while now, I have been considering the purchase of an M6 to get the tone ID feature. Just today, it occurred to me that the M6 tone ID might behave very strangely when using a Bigfoot coil.

Is anyone using an M6 / Bigfoot combination? If so, how well does the tone ID work with the Bigfoot? Does the same target have a different tone under the front and back halves of the coil or is there any difference in the sound at all?

Thanks everyone,
Bob

I have an MXT and a M-6. I put the Bigfoot coil on the M-6 today for the first time. It does have tone ID on the front half and a strange Buzz on the rear half when it passes over the target. I just did a simple test with different coins on the ground. I have yet to test it in the field.

Thanks for doing the experiment and for responding with the results Mike. I suspected there would be a difference in tone ID on the M6 from front to back but had no idea what the difference would be.

Like you, I have become accustomed to the front to back sound difference when using an MXT. It has become almost automatic that when I get a "good" back half signal that I move the Bigfoot back to verify and evaluate that signal using the front half of the coil before pinpointing. Do you do that also?

How long have you had your M6? Have you used the tone ID feature with other coils and if so, did you like it? And lastly, do you think you could become accustomed to using the Bigfoot on your M6 with the tone ID difference?

Sorry to be so full of questions.

Have fun, Bob

I bought my M-6 about 8 months ago as a back up detector and I have only used it 3 or 4 times. I prefer the MXT because I like the relic mode and the slight sound of the threshold hum. When I get a response on the rear half of the Bigfoot coil I also pull the coil back and check the target with the front half. Like you said after awhile it becomes an automatic response. As far as the tone ID is concerned, I do not care for it. I suppose you could get used to it especially if you were looking for the higher tone silver coins. If I have the time I usually dig it all if the VDI reading is over 12. So the tone ID is of little use for me.

Mike.

I was a little surprised when you responded that you had bought an M6. I know that you really like the MXT relic mode with a Bigfoot. I do understand having a back up detector. The thought of being without a functional detector is SCARY. Thanks for the feedback on the M6. I think I will stick with my MXT, XL Pro and IDX Pro. They have served me well and will back up each other nicely.

I haven

I've been using the bigfoot/M6 combo for awhile. The 7 tones are nice. I just tested the back half of the coil on a quarter. Still rang up 84 on the vdi. With tones you can go much faster in a park, without looking @ meter. the bigfoot covers a lot of ground. The mxt is has great capabilites. Had one before the M6, i use xterra 30 for backup. HH

Thanks,
Appreciate the feedback.
