Have a new M6 and i think i could grow to like it if it has less tones.
How about just learning the M6 as it is and growing to like what it offers? The M6 is, basically, and simplified MXT in the Coin & Jewelry mode with a fixed sub-threshold audio setting. The automated GB is very quick, the GB can be used or locked, the Pinpointing is excellent, and the flip-of-a-toggle switches from the Single Tone to Seven Tone ID operation.
My MXT Pro incorporates the 7-Tone ID audio of the M6 and, like the M6, I like to use this audio info
on occasion, at will, but not as a standard search audio. Too many years, decades really, of metal detecting with a wide range of makes and models has made me a strong believer in using audio Tone ID only on certain occasions. I don't rely on it, and I limit its use to
'casual coin hunting' when most targets are shallower, such as surface to 3"-4", and that's mot all the time. I prefer the single tone audio.

I like the simple operation except no volume control and is it loud or what?
Yes, the M6 and MXT models can be loud, especially if you are running them at higher Sensitivity settings. The Sensitivity control serves multi-functions once adjusted above a certain point. By the time you get to the factory 'preset' mark you're at high Sensitivity and then as you increase to the +1, +2 and +3 settings, it adds a little extra Target Volume and audio saturation (less modulation).
You can either run a lower Sensitivity level setting ... or ... use a good quality headphone with separate controls for each earpiece. I suggest headphones such as the Killer B Wasp or SunRay Pro Gold (essentially the same) which I have as back-ups, or the new White's made Pro Star headphones which are my main-use set. For me and my impaired hearing, I keep the headphones wide-open but they do provide the comfort options for those who feel a detector's output is too loud.

Can they be modified to three or maybe 4?
No, but it is only a 7-Tone ID when you have the Discrimination level set at minimum as that allows the bass-like lowest tone audio for iron. If you increase the Discrimination to reject Iron, you limit the audio tones you'll hear. I know several people who concentrate mostly on Coin Hunting settings and they reject the smallest foil range as well. That can leave them with a 6 Tone or 5 Tone Audio ID. So, set the Disc. where you want it and learn how many tones are left for you to hear.

If not it will have to go to make room for another F5 that has 4 tones and volume control real soon.
I wouldn't be too hasty, especially after you learn the M6. Maybe use the stock 950 coil and 6
