M6/5.3 eclipse Find

tink

New member
I have had the M6 for about a month now. I been hunting a middle school that was built on a old dairy farm. I knew there could be some nice finds here because I did find a couple of 40/50 wheaties this year. The trash has just been so bad I just kind of put it on hold.

I bought a 5.3 eclipse coil because of all the posts on what a good coil it was for trashy/iron areas. This afternoon I got an hour to hunt and figured this would be great place to test. It came through with flying colors. It seperated the targets and let me concentrate on trying to pull out some old coins.

About 20 minutes after hunting the area I had pulled out a couple of clad dimes and pennies. Then I got a another very solid repeatable 50 cent hit. VDI was 91/92, 50 cents on all swings and depth about 5" down. I dug a plug and used by Tek PP to locate the center of the target. I dug down a little further and pulled out a 1962D Franklin half. Man was I surprised as I thought it was another silver ring like the two others the M6 has gotten me.

It was getting dark but I had another good target going. It said a penny but kept bouncing between penny/dime and thought maybe wheatie. It turned out to be a really ncie 1963D penny. Can't wait to go back now and sift threw the rest of the area. This was only my 4th silver and my first half dollar. Love the feel of big silver.

Glad to see you picked up that 5.3 Eclipse coil :) because, as I have said, the M6 is an excellent detector and combined with that particular White's coil you will have a perfect balance and superb field performance for 95+% of your hunting needs.

Let's hope for another break in this dreary rain so you can work that site some more. Perhaps your next silver coin won't have the 'battle scars' that half has.

Thanks for the congrats guys. It not a valuable find but really nice to see come out of this area. Pulling something like this out of the ground gives a person some renewed hope of more being in the area. Sure brings a guys spirits up that you aren't just swinging for nothing.

Not only is this little coil superb ln target separation and pinpointing, I seen better performance in sensitivity also. I had the sensitivity set about 3/4 and was still getting overloads on surface targets. It usually doesn't overload on clad but it did last night on a pennies. That usually only occurred with PTs and large objects. Nice to know you have more power available at the 3/4 mark.

One other thing that really pleased me about this coil was its enhancement to the Disc Modes. Like I mentioned to you before Monte, using the stock coil even set at coins only was a frustrating. This machine still picked up or sounded off on about everything I went over. It wasn't repeating or solid, but still annoying to hear all that stuff in the headphones when searching for coins only. The 5.3 took care of that problem. When I set the disc up to coins only the machine hardly sounded off at all over disced out targets.

As for the weather, not likely I will be out this weekend. Rains are back and it seems like it staying again for a while. The one good thing about our climate is when the rains stop we can get out. Our ground hardly ever freezes and when it does it thaws fast. Don't be playing by your usual river spots Monte. Those rivers and creeks sure do come up high fast now. Hey maybe with all this flooding, some of that yellow stuff will wash down out of the mountains for us to find.

I use the M6 with the 8" and 5" excel coils and have good luck with them. I usually use full power very little disc. I was out today and found quite a few coins in about 40 mins. There was an elderly woman with a explorer xs and stealth coil. I stop by and talk to her, she was an avid hunter. She told me she had about 12 detectors. She was probably 70yrs. old. She has hunted all over including chicago. She was enjoying the nice weather. HH
