M-6 find a fast mover and a sad cent

cosmic

From the churchyard a fast mover, a nice 39 mercury at measured 7".. Great Day, so I headed in to grab a bite to eat.. I hit the street easement by a very large tree and the M-6 screamed 50 cents.. I figured a piece of can slaw, but I carefully dug the plug because you never know.. Pin pointed at 9".. As I probed the hole with my pinpointer nothing.. So I dug a little deeper and a t 7" a large root came into view.. Well maybe mineralization or water in the root made it sound off.. Further down there was another root right below the upper one was resting on.. As I ran the pinpointer along the two it sounded off.. Hmmm. I pried them apart a little and seen a round edge..Pulling it out I couldn't tell what it was, but the neighborhood kid said it looked as big as a half dollar..I told him the silver around here comes out clean and that it wasn't that.. It has a face on it he said.. Got back to the house and rinsed it off and seen a hole in it.. Thought it was a medallion but as I cleaned it it turned out to be a 1836 large cent!! Made me sad to see it like that as thats the first one I have found.. I guess you know what I think about the M-6

That coin is one great find. I've been told that people put holes in the coins to wear on a necklace so they didn't get lost. Guess it didn't work too well huh? It's still a great find being as old as it is. Nice Merc. also. And more power to you with those roots. :ranting:
