Lurker finds Medieval/post Medieval relics...

Hey all! I have been lurking and checking out the posts but not posting much lately. Been busy around the house with the family, gardening and cutting firewood. Still getting out detecting for short hunts. Took my 10 year old daughter fishing along the stream that borders our property, she caught a brook trout and a rainbow trout, both nice eating size but she was on the catch and release program so we put them back gently. We had a blast. Here she is with the rainbow trout.

One of the farmers spreading yesterdays cattle feed, I was glad to be able to get down wind from this smell on the other side of the field!

I bought a 2003 Suzuki 4X4 detector mobile. My oldest son got his license and after driving around looking for the right car for two weeks, I got tired of looking and gave him my Audi and bought myself what I wanted, or close to what I wanted, LOL.

I never thought I would do something like this but

A brilliant post as usual Mike. I simply love the seal and was fasinated by the detail something that old could still produce, a fantastic find indeed. I found a similar design for your crossbow bolt head but is an arrow head that might do the same job or purpose........http://www.hectorcoleironwork.com/images/Roving%20head.gif.
Cheers!

Wonderful post.Fabulous finds and Quality time with your daughter....Thanks for the great post.
I think you should use that picture for your avatar.......LOL

What a great collection! Best pot Iv'e seen in awhile! Kudos from me! HH great JOB! Grant , Awsome display makes me wanna move!

Some great finds there! I especially loved the seal. Your bolt head (assuming it wasn't from a normal arrow head) is very interesting. The half-moon type (which looks somewhat similar) was used to cut through rope on the rigging of ships and possible siege devices. I suspect that they would be ideal for causing blood loss in horses. Since yours is a V-shape at the front, it might be a unique design. Without the common barbs typical of most arrows, it's clearly a specialized tip. I'm absolutely stumped on it's true purpose though. Be sure to post back and let us know if you discover more about it! Cheers!

One of my favorite places to hunt has an occassional dose of recycled hog feed applied to it. And I know what you mean about the smell. Honestly, when the wind is from an unfavorable direction, you can barely breathe! I never like to stop in the "middle of a hunt". But at those times, we must realize there is always another day! :surrender: Nice pics and a great assortment of historical finds. Thanks for posting. HH Randy
