Lumbago F70 clad stab cure! :stretcher:

New member
Last Sunday as I was pulling up my waders, my back went "pop"...just a little pop, low and on the left side, but by the time I got out of the water, I was barely able to walk... Monday I was hurtin', hunting through the pain...Tuesday I was still hunting, the Big Lake conditions were just too good to pass up! but really crippled to the point of hurting to drive, sleep, sit, or do just about anything... Wednesday I started self medicating heavily, (alcohol) Thursday, Friday, not any better....no hunting for 3 days straight!.

This am I was still all crippled up, took 15 minutes just to put on socks! Needed a good hunt to lift my spirits. I drove past a big soccerfield thats been locked tight all year and the gates were wide open! In there I went to work...painful stabbing and then getting back upright, but you know what? After a few hours I was cured! Got 89 coins for 8.92, twenty of them were Nickles, got more nickels than dimes...I was really going slow, stabbing all high iron, foil, tab and midrange looking for gold. Some guy was walking the track around the field and we talked, I told him about my back and he said "sounds like Lumbago"?

I got home and looked up "Lumbago" on Wikipedia and thats what I had...says opiates help with the pain spasms, says a person may need counseling for the depression,:lmfao: I say drink and read the Forums! Then go hunting! I ran the F70 with multiple sens settings from the low 30's under the bleachers (works great) to the mid 60's out in the main with the predominant setting of 42 on the sidelines in the trash...I sure hope my Wife dont think I'm ready to start raking leaves, better hobble around a little for show..:wiggle:

First off, on a bunch of good stabbing again. Secondly, a bunch of us, and one doesn't have to be old like me, have had back problems. I used to drive a lot in my (other) job, the one I actually made a living at, and there were times the pain in my lower left side got so bad I had to stop every half hour and lean against the car and stretch. I ran into a guy that told me about a book that had back exercises for various back pain location problems. I selected the exercise that supposedly would help the location of my back pain. After 4 or 5 day I knew I was getting better. After 10 days no more pain. That was about 10 years ago and I have been pain free ever since. Of course, loosing a few pounds after I retired probably didn't hurt either. Thirdly, glad to see someone posted. I was beginning to think everyone had sold their Fisher machines. Good hunting mud. And hope your back stays well. HH jim tn

Thanks Jim, Yeah, before I started detecting I would get this kind of tremendous lower back pain a few times a year, was taking Flexeril to try to loosen up the muscles, went to the Chiro, etc....I cant remember having it for the past few years? Maybe little episodes, generally when the weather changes I think. Seems sitting is the worse thing for a guy huh? I went back out for a little this afternoon and sniped p a few more dollars close to home, one was a dollar coin...I'm hitting it again tomorrow depending upon the wind conditions, if the Lakes semi-flat, I'll be in it, if not, on the dirt. I stopped by the local Coin shop and priced out some silver...I may just start saving up some clad and buying silver Q's or something...that would be better for a guy than buying smokes and beer probably.

Sorry to hear about your back pain Mud.

I feel you all too well. I have a disc in my lumbar region that gets so bad about 3x a year I can't stand up to take a wiz. Let alone MD'ing.

Best of luck during the hard times. Seems like you work your way through it. Tough as Nails.

Hey Trailduster! I sure hear you there! For two nights in a row, when I had to get up to take a wiz...I was so locked up I could hardly get out of bed it hurt so bad, when I finally did, I had to crawl into the bathroom, could not stand up without excruciating pain, luckily, the wastebasket was just the right height to sort of slide under my body, sort of like sliding an oil pan under a car! Boy, I dont think a fellow can do much of anything when a back locks up, I'm wearing a back belt and trying to take it easy and get out to hunt.

I pounded the heck out of nickels this weekend being forced to move slow, I bet I got over 50 of them between yesterday and today. Some nice spills and stacks too...no gold, one junk ring, hunting soccerfields and schools I've been to lots of times...

mudd gladd to see you persevered, and kept going , sitting is not good , you keep at it .

Good story Mud,

I feel your pain, as do others, it seems. You know, it is amazing how alcohol does help relieve just such a pain. Sounds like you had a great hunt, fantastic. I remember you helping me find my F70 legs and I have never turned back. Once the faulty coil was replaced and I started with your suggested settings and the best of all, the "weed whacker" comment got me started on a roll. I suffered from a ruptured disk and never had it operated on -- I have this theory that if you let them cut into you while you are knocked out a demon might get in. Every now and then, from just the wrong tilt I can lay myself up for a few days, but like you, I find it a good excuse not to mow the lawn. Oh, wait, I mean to go metal detecting as therapy -- :wiggle: No, really, honey, we are just going out to get some exercise. You take care of yourself, Mud, I consider you a mentor, to me and others -- cheers

I feel your pain Mud, hobbled myself pretty good chasing down my kids cat when she got out two weeks ago. Torqued the right ankle till I heard a distinct POP ... Oh yeah it sucked. And still isn't quite right but still workable.

Deer hunting this last weekend was all but fruitless so I headed down the mountain to the local high school ( their football field is always locked) well low and behold the gates were wide open with no one about. For my 6 hours I netted over $20 in change , mostly quarters since everything at the snack shack leaves you with quarters for change. Pulled a fat men's silver plated copper ID bracelet and a small sterling girls ring.

Talk about making the Ankle Gods angry. But it was well worth it.

Be safe out there brother and know you ain't the only one banged up and still hunting it hard ;)
