This has nothing to do with metal detecting but I thought I would pass it along. My wife went to some garage sales today and she bought a purse for 50 cents. She got home and checked through all the zippered parts, etc. In one of the comparments was 8 old coins.
2 - 1951 silver dimes/1947 silver dime/1954 silver dime/1952 silver dime/1964 silver dime/1953 silver dime/1943 D penny.
I know nothing about the value of coins but the 1943 penny got me thinking that I have read somewhere in the past that they could be of value. So I researched the 1943 D penny and it said to see if it was copper or steel to use a magnet. Unfortunately the penny stuck to the magnet (so it is steel)(worth about $1.50) if it would of been copper the value is at $40,000 or more (so I have read). Oh well still not a bad buy for 50 cents. Steve.
I am kind of curious why the coins would of been in the purse that they sold at the garage sale. Maybe they was a coin collector and bought them and stored them there, or put them in the purse to take them to sell, or possibly stolen, who knows...
I have found 5 old coins in my 15 + years of detecting and she gets 8 all at once.
