Lucked Up On Some Big Civil War Bullets

Sooper Dave

Well-known member
[size=large]I got in a nice hunt yesterday at an old house that I hunted before a little over a year ago and dug a dozen Minie Balls and a nice Barber dime. I got a chance to hunt it for about an hour last night and dug 10 more very nice .69 caliber Minie's, (9 are drops and one was pulled) a couple of flat buttons, an 1897 Indian and a few other odds and ends. I have only covered a very small section of this property. The owner is reluctant for me to hunt there too much but I'm going to keep working on some more time there. I am going to put a couple of the bullets in a display to give to them in hopes to get another chance at digging more of the great history that is there.

That's an awesome hunt! Congrats on those bullets...I'm hoping to pull some of those someday.

Great pictures Dave! I'd love to unearth one of the civil war bullets.....small chance here. Congratulations on 'em.

Those are some excellent finds man.
Although not exactly rare as CW bullets go, .69 cal minie's weren't as common as the .58 cal minies.
They were used more at the beginning of the CW along with other old hodge-pods of muskets before the .58 cal Enfields and Springfields were later introduced in large numbers.

Like NebTrac, CW minie's just aren't happening around these parts either. Lucky to find a 1800s hunter's round ball.

Great idea too giving the land owner some of those finds. Hopefully he'll let you hunt there more.

I'd say that was a SOOPER hunt Dave, nice job indeed. ZzzI love the patina on those bullets.
