Luck Of the Irish!

Yesterday me and another poster here, my pal 'Sturrat' met up and hunted a water spot for 6hrs of straight hard hunting...it was a cool Fall overcast day spitting tiny rain, just a bit of wind. About perfect for a long hunt to keep a guy from getting overheated. We are both in tip-top detecting shape from a hard Summers effort hunting gold, digging arms mighty, sweeping arms all limbered up and mechanically sound, so we didnt hurt ourselves or get overexerted.

We were primarily targeting gold, as we both have strong feelings thats its in here someplace. Theres old silver in here a plenty, both in ring and coin form, all sorts of old beavertails, bottlecaps, lead weights and all the positive sounding signals that gold likes to hide in and also tells us nobodies really swept the place clean before...
We met up and did a junk dump at the cars after a few hours hunting, I estimate the 'Rat had well over 100 targets, lots of clad, probably 6 bucks worth, a couple of wheats, lots of tabs, a cool old ring...I did not have as many targets or clad, with the majority being shotgun shells and tabs..I did find the claddaugh ring and another pretty one that was junk, so at least we were in the ring zones and on the right targets...

We regrouped and kept hunting, steadily working along parallel in knee to waist deep water and hollering out targets to let the other guy know if we were in a paydirt area. eventually I hit the toe ring, and the older sterling ring, that spoke to me of the old water in this spot, so I pulled a tight circle and got this 37 merc. a few feet away..I got home and electrolysist them into a lustrous shine!.

I'm pretty sure we both dug over 200 targets in that time frame, all sorts of strange and wonderful things, the 'Rat got a womans watch, and a few more rings and lots more clad and wheats....but NO gold showed up for either of us? So I guess it just goes to show you, not all Irish are Lucky all the time! It was a beautiful days hunt with a buddy, and neither of us were at work, so compared to most other working family guys, we were still pretty lucky I guess...
Mud

ps: I had to work this (Sat) morning and couldnt go hunting! Can you believe that? What bad Luck! Oh wait, if I wouldnt have had to go to work, I woulda had to rake leaves instead, and I HATE raking leaves or any other time wasting yardwork, so some more Good Luck afterall! Horray for tomorrow!!

Mud you had a great day! A beautiful silver coin and rings. I see right now that I'm going to have to learn how to detect in the water. I already have a AT Pro, so all that I need is a scoop and a maybe a wet suit for cold weather detecting. Mud you inspired me!

Well Tab, I have no doubt you'd be VERY good at it, as much as you like to dig just about everything...get a pair of waders or even just hip boots and a reasonable scoop and try it out...If you dont like it, you aren't out much...theres some pretty inspiring videos on youtube of fellows hunting water with the AtPro...

May I suggest you take a moment and watch some of 'Aquachigger's work? He found 7lbs of old silver coins from the late 1700's into the 1800's with a first issue Pro back a few years, just wading around in the water near his house..:surprised:.

It is a different way of hunting, but probably a good thing for you to attempt just to see...you have a good nose for old dirt, and the same instincts apply to water..
Mud.

Mud that hip boot and waders suggestion is a great ideal. Now I got to figure out what the best scoop to get and I'm in business. Thanks so much!

I got start watching some water detecting videos.:jump: Watch out water here I come.
