Lubricant for Excal. "O" Ring

New member
Good Morning All,

Last year I purchased a used Excalibur off of Ebay. The owners manual says to use a "marine silicon gel" to lubricate the o-ring at the top of the battery pack, (replaceable battery pack). I have not been able to find "marine silicon gel" can I use Vaseline instead?

The rechargeable battery pack won't hold a charge, any suggestions?
The metal detector is one year old.

Thanks for the help,

Do not use Vaseline. Look for a local Scuba shop, and sometimes a sporting goods shop will have it, in your area. Call around! If not you can order it online from just about anyone who sells anything to do with swimming, scuba or fishing.

The battery pack is bad or the charger isn't working. Have you tested the charger or used it on another pod?

You can also get silicon lubricant at a hardware store such as Lowe's in the plumbing section, that's where I got some from. It's only like $3.00 or so.

Vaseline is petroleum based and it will destroy the "0" ring. Silicone can be found in the plumbing aisle near the plumbers putty and adhesives.
Your rechargeable battery pack has to be charged just before you go hunting. Mine loose the charge within 10 days if not used. You can have your rechargeable batteries replaced by "Batteries Plus" for about 1/3 the cost of a new pod.....and use NiMH batteries instead of the NiCads.....they hold the charge better and don't have a memory.

A BIG THANK YOU, I am grateful for the information. It kept me from making a big mistake that would have cost me money, time and frustration.
