Lubercation on zippers for booties and wet suits

Waterdog

Well-known member
While out the other day I went to take my booties off and the zipper was STUCK. Anyone have any good pointers on what type of oil or ??? to put on these to keep them free?

Thin coating of paraffin wax works well. I just rub a candle on my zips, but you don't want to put on too much which will attract and stick sand on the zips.

Hunter Lubricant brand zip care lubricant by Zip Care from the local dive shop has kept zippers working and seals sealed on both my wet and dry suits. Booties zips work equally well. Everything gets a good rinsing so sand isn't an issue.

If you know of anyone who keeps honeybees you would be able to get some beeswax. Most of the scuba divers I know use it . Seems it does not wash off or get jammed up with sand. HHS Mike

I use beeswax also, for the last four years, on my drysuit, never had problems and it moves really freely still

John, I have used both, used the McNett silicon spray for the zippers but found the wax works best, and last longer, think mine is the zipper ease stick.

Would surf board wax work as good as beeswax on zippers ?
I don't know whats in surfboard wax, but I cant imagine that it wouldn't work just fine.

Go to your local hardware store or plumbing supply & buy a wax ring for setting a toilet. They're only around $1, & are pure beeswax.
