Just did a bunch of research to buy my retired father a detector for a new hobby and in the process i got myself hooked on the idea of metal detecting and want one for myself lol

I bought him a teknetics omega 8000 based on the rave reviews but I'm leaning towards getting myself a Bounty Hunter Land Ranger Pro. What do you think ,is the LRP a winner ?? should I give it a try and is it worth the current price of $282 on amazon.... Thanks

BTW no prior md experience, primary interest is coin hunting, location Northeast...
 
I would find the best deal on a gamma 6000 its just as hot as the omega and you will find after you've been metal detecting for years that notch function is not a good feature..
Run the machine with minimum disc.and listen to everything in the ground so you want miss a good silver next iron.
There's one machine that that parallels the lrp in price but is an exceptional machine with features more expensive machines don't have,the teknetics Eurotek pro.It has volume control but also it allows you to control the volume of iron separate from the volume of nonferrous targets.
This allows you to run zero discrimination so as to not mask good targets and yet make iron sound as low as you want,or no iron sound at all.
It has a very fast response/recovery speed so it will work through iron trash better than even the omega 8000.

So for the dollars spent,do some searches on amazon as their $229.00 with the 11" DD coil right now.

The LRP is a Teknetics Eurotek Pro with more features for coin/jewelry hunting.

It's built on the same process as the Tek Greek series (Delta, Gamma, Omega) and new F series Fishers, but is BH by design with the two rod system and plug in coil. Other than those ergonomics, the detecting experience is the same. The LRP offers the F19/G2 type conductivity arc which allows for finer segment ID. The notch width allows zeroing in on a particular numeric signal without notching a whole segment. 3 preprogrammed modes allow for quick turn on and go hunting styles, coin, jewelry and artifacts. Or you can customize the different sound modes of 2,3 and 4 to your liking as you learn more about detecting. For an under $300 detector, you also get auto Ground Grab or manual ground balance, something unheard of in that price range.

It's light and has about the same depth as machines costing twice as much. It comes with one of the best all metal modes, where as the ID and depth meter is active during AM sweeping. The LRP uses the Fisher conductivity range of gold/silver in the 21-99 range rather than the Tek 41-99 range allowing for tighter ID for gold and silver.

It comes with the 11"DD coil, and a Eurotek Pro with the DD coil is $299.

For the price, it's perfect for first time hunters as well as seasoned hunters who want customization.

I appreciate the suggestions supertraq, I looked at the eurotek pro dd as well and it sounds like a great unit but I'm fairly tech savy and wouldn't mind a detector with a few more options, especially ground balance.

Seems like right now might not be the best time to buy anyways I looked on camelcamelcamel.com for amazon prices and 4 days ago the eurotek pro with dd coil was $216 and in november the LRP was $228 ....... I'm not really in an hurry considering the ground is frozen here so I'm gonna keep an eye out and see what kind of deals pop up.

All things considered though it sounds like the land ranger pro is hard to beat for the money ! Thanks for the info and reply Hightone !
 
Well that's the one thing I wish the etp had was gb.
I would go with the lrp then.
Either one perform way above there price range,I'm impressed by there power and functions that perform and aren't just novelty functions.:teknetics:
 
I've had a LRP since they came out..For the money they are hard to beat,but there are some things I don't like.The pinpoint button is terrible.But I don't use it anway.Its easy enough
to pinpoint without using the button.The numbers are jumpy but,,,,I dig everything but iron.The machine when setup like this is very,very good at target seperation,and the depth is purty durn good on it.So I don't like the pinpoint button and the numbers are jumpy at times,but at that price and the performance it has I would buy another in a heart beat.
I bought it for a backup unit but I could see it being used as a primary unit.
 
I compare the lrp to the omega 8000 with extras v break etc. and remember lrp is 2015 teknology and omega is 2006 or 07.
with an adapter to greek coils they are hard to beat in trashy places.
