Lower shaft...interference???

Hello all I usually post in the XP Deus forum but recently I was hunting with a buddy who regularly uses the CTX 3030. The only reason I discovered this is that I have a non-stock lower shaft for my machine...and it's made of woven carbon fiber. I noticed that the CTX 3030 uses a similar but larger lower shaft and wondered if anyone has ever noticed interference or erratic operation with their CTX 3030.

Carbon fiber is slightly electrically conductive - take your pinpointer and test the lower shaft of the CTX 3030 to see what I'm talking about. It's enough (at least in my mind) that the detector would false and possibly run a little 'desensitized' with this shaft in range of the coil's field. I want to see if anyone is using a 3030 and has noticed this - maybe it makes no difference at all but I thought I would at least bring it up...thank you and HH!!!

I know this sounds too simple, but, did you test this shaft on the CTX with the cables out of it?

In answer to your question, no, I haven't noticed any interference or erratic operation with my CTX. What about your buddy, is he having problems?

Wow...now I really feel dumb! :drinking:

Guess I've been a one-trick pony for too long - forgot that most other detectors have cables running from the coil to the box!!! But I do have a carbon-fiber shaft mounted to my Deus coil that DOES make a pinpointer sound off a little bit - I would guess that the Minelab guys would have known this when designing the CTX and, if there were any trouble, it would have come out of the woodwork by now...mods please feel free to delete this thread!!!

No biggie, CZ.........an easy mistake to make. I will, however, check mine with the pinpointer the next time I change coils and let you know.

Now, go find something good with your non-stock lower shaft. (ummm, what were all the edits, david? :poke:)
