Lower shaft allowance Question

I have a left over straight shaft I used with my Excalibur. I want to try some land hunting and have a question. When I purchased my Excalibur their was a short shaft ...in the box. I was wondering if I can use that on the end of my straight rod. It fits but it's not very far from the coil is their a set distance it has to be ?? in order not to get any falsing. Maybe their is a standard rule ?????

Ron you didnt mention what machine you are trying to use for dirt digging.... the Xcal? If so i dont know why you would have an issue since that shorter lower shaft came with the machine that had an aluminum upper. Id think they tested it for the angle of the shaft and coil as well for diving. It may just put that shaft far enough out of the way to have NO affect.

Dew sorry I forgot to mention that. I'm going to use my Sovereign GT with it. I will be mounting the unit on the rear of the rod like it was setup originally. It's a pain to get into the attic ...I have to move to many things to get to the box with the lower shaft. So I figured someone would have a idea, of the distance. The extra shaft I have now is plenty long so I really don't need to buy another lower if I can get away with this one. I guess I'll have to get into the attic to really test it.
