Lower rod question ...

No. The Excal has the spring pin to the side and the Sov has it on the bottom
 
Like Neil says, it is pretty easy to drill another hole and either move the pin or add a second one so you can use it on either detector without fussing with it any more. Just make sure you set up the detector on a flat surface when marking the lower rod thru the hole on the detector shaft. You want it to look nice and level too. It's your equipment, don't be afraid to modify it and set it up to your liking. That's what makes the Sov and Excal so great, you have a lot more options than with most other brands.
