Low VDI Micro Gold Jewelry

Treasure Mike

New member
Went out and hunted several parks and playgrounds and I had some success in the wood chips. The bracelet is marked .925 China. (What's not made in China these days?) I saw it on top of the wood chips. The .8 gram 10 K gold earing hit at foil 2-4 on the MXT's VDI meter using the Bigfoot coil. The Boy's size 2 gold ring (tested 10K)weighs 2.6 grams and registered at 4-6 and was down about an inch in the wood chips. The religious pendant is marked 10K and weighs 1 gram and also registered at 4 to 6 and was barely covered by wood chips. In the turf I seldom dig these low numbers but in the wood chips it is easy to check targets since there is little or no digging involved. Thanks for looking! Mike

Congratulations Mike. Those are some very nice finds. Nice bracelet and the gold items are small but enough to cause a LARGE smile.

I think I should start hunting more upscale tot lots.

Continue having good luck and fun, Bob

What level of discrimination and gain were you using, and what mode were you in (jewelry or relic)? I'm digging lots of tabs and junk, but no rings or gold. Thanks!

I only use enough discrimination so that I get high sounds on foil and above. I use the relic mode exclusively. I like the two tones the relic mode has with low tones for discriminated targets and high tones above that. I run the MXT's gain at preset in the wood chips and + 2 in the turf. If you are digging pull tabs then you will eventually find gold. I have found that most gold rings/jewelry will register between 10 and 25 on the VDI meter. A VDI reading of between about 15 to 20 has been the hot spot for me on a lot of gold rings. Hope this helps and good luck finding the "Gold"! Mike
