Low Auto Sensitivity

I usually hunt in Auto + 3. 99% of the time. I've noticed there are instances when I'm out hunting that the "auto" set sensitivity can go as low as 5-8. I've even see it goes as low as 2. I try to noise cancel and note my surroundings and I don't see any possible EMI sources nearby (power lines, cell tower, other detectors etc.) I'll walk a few hundred yards away and it'll go back up to 15 or so. It seems very rare that I'll get auto to go in the 20's. The area I live has lots of iron and I'm guessing it could be mineralization? Any tips are appreciated.

See if ground balancing or using ground-coin makes any difference for you. It seems a general rule I've burned into my brain after reading the many posts here is to try those two if you see sensitivity dropping below 15 in auto or if it takes it that low to stabelize the detector in manual.

Like pspr said, try ground coin.. Using ferrous coin with auto +3 It normally runs in the 13-17 range..If it drops to below 12 or so I switch to ground coin.. The other day at an old school site in central Indiana switching from ferrous coin to ground coin raised my suggested sensitivity from 8 in ferrous to a 21 in ground coin...wildherre

Lots of times you experience EMI I very odd places you can't figure out. Sounds like that or minerals. Have you tried other machines there?

Thanks guys. I will try Ground Coin and Balancing to see if I notice a change.

Good to know 13 -17 is a normal value also. In Ferrous Coin

That is a pretty interesting tip there. I'll put that one in the memory banks for my first venture into heavier mineralized ground.

Thanks for the tips guys,
Albert

went to a spot today and had auto drop to from 8 to 5.... Even in ground coin still very low...... Tried cranking manual to 25.... didn't' notice any chatter
