Lousy day at Aliso with the CTX

Some days are really nice, this one just was really annoying.
I got to Aliso around 10am. Tons of people but found a parking spot. I have the 17" coil on my CTX - which is mentioned in another thread with a wiggle noise issue.
I try hunting at the top of the wet sand. The waves are absolutely crazy - over 15' sometimes that just crash down and shoot water up a hundred feet or more. See video
Every time I try and dig one of those waves hits and throws water up at me, almost knocking me over. The temperature is probably 84 and high humidity; sunscreen and sand getting in my eyes.
One thing encouraging is that at least there are targets. These waves are shooting the good stuff up onto the wet sand. Little rocks coming at you at 40mph. Amazing, one minute wet sand, after the next wave you see a 50lb rock that wasn't there before.
Stuff is really moving around. Anyway, I'm finding nickels and cruddy pennies. Nothing good, no concentrations. I'm almost soaked. I normally use the WM10 with earbuds. A wave splashed up and took out my WM10. The earbuds were intermittent anyway.
So I go to the car and get the waterproof yellow phones. Jeez how did I stand using them before. Very poor target audio definition plus people talk at me and I can't hear them. I finally give up. I can't wash myself or my stuff as a bunch of people seem to be having a party at the showers. I go to my car and people constantly drive by and ask if I'm leaving (wanting my parking spot). I had walked to Montage and back and found nothing. Just before I hit the parking lot I got a handmade dual silver wire toe ring or something.
I went home wondering if this is how it is going to be from now on. My WM10 dried up a bit and fixed itself. yea! Then I found the probable source of my 17" noises - torn cable at the strain relief. What a pain trying to get the 17" back off as I had to tighten the screw so tight to get to stay in place. I think I'm going back to the 11". Nothing worse than all this, but just stuff didn't work right, conditions could have been better, and it would have been nice to find a decent piece of jewelry. I'm sure many of you think I'm nuts for trying to hunt amongst all these people. I don't mind and they don't seem to either. I just don't hit the dry sand around them - that probably would piss them off.

I feel your pain. I had a similar beach day yesterday minus the huge waves. I was knock around same as you, only found about $2.50 in clad, no jewelry and couldn't rinse off because of all the people using the showers. But, I'm sure the next hunt will be remarkable.
Keep at it. HH

My hats off to you hunting around all the people. I usually hit the beach at 5am just so I can hunt undisturbed because no matter what I do if there is a person on the beach they will come up and want to talk. They're always friendly, ask nice questions about getting into detecting and I'm always good to be polite so as not to make anyone mad at MD'ers but sometimes a 4 hour hunt is only really 2 hours. My buddy loves to hunt with me because he knows he will be left alone as I get all the looky lu's.

Glad your WM10 survived. Mine has taken a dump and having to send it back. I think I'll just keep my new one in it's box and keep hunting the old fashioned way. Your next hunt is going to be epic because you got all the bad stuff out of the way.

Best
