Louisiana Pelican Buckle

I found this in Nov of 2008, but just now learned how to get size cut down so it will be small enough to put on. I found it around an old homesite here in Indiana. I was using a Mod Sov with 8 in coinsearch coil I got from David at Dixie Metal Detectors. When I first got it out of the ground it just looked like some type of old buckle. I called David told him...oh, its just a Pelican that looks like it is sitting on a tire. I had no idea at the time what I had found. It was on edge about 4 inches deep sitting under a tree root. There were several ferrous items in the same hole. I had hunted this area hard for 2 years and used several detectors. This was my 2nd time out with the setup from David and the results speak for themselves. Probably brought back from the war as a souviener. This is the story of The Pelican That Flew North.

I must say it was one of the best finds of 2008. What makes it even more rare is the fact it was dug in IN. From time to time I've seen a number of CSA's come from up north but not a LA buckle. That one is really nice. I'll try to insert better pics.
Congrats on a great find, David@Dixie

Man, that is something! It's hard enough to find one in the South. But to find one up there in Indie? Whowee. What's the odds?

Congrats, John. Like to read that story in a mag some day soon. Seriously.

Sometime this year Minelab will have a short story on this buckle in the find of the month in Lost Treasure magazine. The odds of finding this in Indiana are certainly almost 0, but I had divine intervention. I could not afford to keep this find, so I will now be able to afford some new doors for my house and most of all $500.00 will be going to a Christian organization to sponsor a child in Africa. The Pelican that Flew North will now be flying to Africa!
