I found this VERY heavy sterling ID bracelet in the water in a lake near Detroit. Here is the writing on it. Can anybody help find this person??

PERCY LOUIS SNOW

805 - 79 - 46 (Old Military ID number)

TYPE 0 T 7 / 43 (Type 0 blood ) (T 7/43 enlistment date maybe?) might be letters before the T too warn off

USNR (United States Navy Reserve)

Trying to find out if he is still alive and where he might be. I have exhausted my resourses and knowledge

Thanks for any help!!!!

Three Percy L. Snow's in the SS death index, all about the right age (born 1918, 1919, 1921) to serve in WW II. I didn't think the name would be that common. Their SSNs were issued in New Hampshire, Pennsylvania and Texas. Of course he could have moved after getting the SSN. Also he may still be alive.

Found out he died in 1990. From the Beach and Scuba section

From : U.S., Department of Veterans Affairs BIRLS Death File, 1850-2010

Name:

Percy L Snow

Birth:

15 Aug 1918

Death:

18 Jul 1990

Military:

11 Jun 1943

Other:

20 Nov 1945

Thats all they found out. Maybe I can find a child if this is the right one. And maybe they would want it, BUT it looks like I reached a dead end. Thanks for all who were helping look.

Doug, the one born in 1918 is there a home town or a state that we can search in for relitives? Thank you for your help!!

The one you found is the one whose SSN was issued in New Hampshire. Unfortunately, the data for last address of record is blank. And the field for address of last benefit is also blank. He was probably born and/or raised in NH, since he probably got the SSN before he went into the military.

I had an uncle in the Navy who was murdered while on duty on 11/6/68 (his 34th birthday). As a kid I was told that he was in a car accident ... Just recently learned of his true fate. Anyways .. where would I go to get more info on this incident? Is it public information now?

Thank you, thank you. Doug and all. Did a zabasearch on the name and came up with him on Snow Lane. Did a Zabasearch on any Snow in that city and came up blank on phone numbers. Then did a white pages search in that city and found a family on Snow Lane. It was his fathers.

He has NO idea how or when his father lost it. But he has his fathers diary and a few other items and wanted to have it. Sending it off tomorrow.

THANKS again ALL .

I also want to thank the moderator Bryce for making a sticy, You Minelab owners have a wonderful moderator. LOL now to slink back to my Fisher forums!!!!

Peace to all and a joyus Christmas season!!

Robert

Hello, I am Kyle Snow, grandson to Percy, and I just wanted to log in and say THANK YOU to everybody involved, especially Mr. Scubadetector. Thank you for going through all the trouble to track us down and return this piece to us, it does mean a lot to the family.

I would be interested in the details of where and how it was found, as it is a bit of a mystery how it got there unless he was there for basic training and lost it before going to war??

Thank you again, this is a great story that we will be telling for years.

Kyle

scubadetector that was mighty decent of you.

I recieved this E-mail today. Just thought I would share.

Robert,
As you probably know we received the ID bracelet yesterday. It reminded me of going to the Grand Canyon. Pictures tell one story, but the real thing has a different effect. I can't believe how this has made it's way back to us. My father's only surviving sibling (of nine) is his 91 year old sister who lives next to us. We will be showing it to her today. She hasn't any better idea how this came to be in Michigan any more than the rest of us. My only sibling is a brother in CT. He has no ideas either and was unaware of the diary we have until he saw the post on the website after sending him the link of the picture. Soon the bracelet and diary will be traveling to him in CT and from there to my son who you heard from in VA. My 2 daughters are close enough they will have to visit us to see it.
I have to say I was pretty skeptical initially. How fortunate we are that you took the time and effort to see this through. We are truly grateful.

Thank you and Merry Christmas,

******** Snow

This is such cool story and thread I just thought it ought to get back up to the top. Maybe get it over to the E trac fourm. Who knows maybe some of the guys from the Fisher fourm will convert...lol.
Great Job guys.

LOL now I am really in trouble!! I posted it on the Minelab Forum for TWO reasons. One, I have a lot of respect for them and the people that use them. And Two, This forum has a lot of knowledge and I like to lurk here.

The ONLY reason I don't swing a Excal when I am diving is that I need absolute silence. In 3 - 6 foot of water, I need to hear all the boats that have NO idea what a dive flag is so I don't become propeller bait. And the CZ-21 is a silent machine.

What a GREAT story for the Holidays!
Scubadetector, you are one EXTRA FINE PERSON!
I have found and returned a few personal items before, but this story has a very nice warming to the heart.
My hats off to you Scubadetector!:clap:

Very nice story! Thanks for sharing with us!

That was a fine thing to do Scubadetector!

Not long ago I got a phone call from out of the blue from the son of a man that was a tank crewman on my father's tank during the Korean war. He sent me some info I didn't have on my Dad, his unit etc while he served there. Needless to say, I am extremely greatful they looked me up. The son lives in OH, and had searched for some time before finding me and then only because he found my fathers obituary which listed me as living in Maryland.

Merry Christmas and God Bless!
