LOTS OF SILVER! ...3rd Strike... Silver Hoard

We ventured off to our semi local spot. Pretty cold today...not raining but close to it. Our coldest day to hunt...with lots of wind. We tried to make the best of it.
As per our last hunt not much to report. Coins are becoming very hard to find. A few coins but nothing to get really excited about. I had a few signals in the dollar range but no joy. We searched all over and was getting colder and evening was approaching. I headed over to Danny to see how hes doing and he thought I was done for the day....I pretty much was. I got a good dollar signal and had to dig it up... and did....and got a nice piece of ol rusted iron. I look at my battery strength and Im at 8.23 volts....not much time left....at 8 volts it dies and forgot my spare battery...So, I will give it till it quits. I headed over to another area that both of us worked for a little while. I got a bouncing signal with some good tone. Lots of iron signal too. I wanted to move on and remember about all the extra iron in the ground so I switched to analyze. Signal wave was smooth but not good....at least not what it should be. Then, I switched to pinpoint. Huge signal. Different than Ive got before with iron and was very strong on good conductors. I start to dig... I dont see anything. Then, I see a plastic bag....Ive gotten bags before with nothing in them. Pull it up and nothing was there. Then, I see some shiny wire. I look closer and it looks like hoops....3 of them. What the heck is it? Sure looks like some kind of silver...or am I just tired? I pull a bit more and it sure looks like one nice long chain. I called to Danny. I said look at this. He said...."looks great...maybe gold"? I continue to pull. More plastic sack and debris comes up and I know have now, 3 separate chains. Danny checks and its .925 silver. Nice! I continue to check the hole and theres signals everyplace. About 4 pieces of iron come up. Then a glimmer! Another chain! Still more signals in the hole. I see more silver! I pull out more and more and more...there is so many I cant count them all! I dont know if its the cold or nerves but Im shaking a bit. I continue to probe and get more iron screws, bolts and a 3 inch iron spring. Then, I see it....MORE Silver!....and Larger! I gingerly pull out more chains out of the water drenched soil. Danny and I are both laughing and trying to figure out.....WHY?
I get more iron bits and then see an outline of a ring. I then pull out a pretty heavy ring! NOW, Rings too! Wow what else
I checked the hole profusely...more iron but no other good targets that we can detect. Danny counted them....97 Sterling Silver chains & 1 Silver ring....go figure.

I still cant quite come to terms with this. Im exausted but my blood is pumping. I dont think I will be able to sleep....again.

More pics to come when I can clean it all up.

That is just unreal James......:stars:

Thanks again Larry,

Its unreal....as we can sooooooo close to missing all this stuff.....as I checked an area that wasnt hopefull at all. I have learned a great deal at this location....I wont forget it!

That's what we all dream of finding James. Goes to show that you never know what is down there until you dig it up.

Congratulations!

Congrats on the silver hoard,
That is one nice find:thumbup:
That is third base looking forward to home plate:clapping:

Thanks again Joel and wasp.

Heres a pic after they were rinsed, soap & water, then ammonia, then boiled....there are clean now but forgive the small root or two in them. Im not complaining but 99 chains to clean....yes 99 not 97 as Danny counted....better more than less!

Its really great for us you took good pictures and did the write-ups as if we were there too..and you had a friend along as well...Just a completely fantastic story from day one..Thanks for sharing it with us! :clapping::clapping:

That was a great story and nice pictures !! Congrats on the silver hoard. I have only dreamed of pulling that kind of booty out of one area. I wonder how all those chains ended up buried there. You might check the local newspaper archives and see if there was a burglary or theft involving the chains. Congrats again on the great find !!!!

Did you weight all those chains and see how many grams there is in total?

james: I am sure you and danny both know if you have found three stash sites there are more to be found, you guys are not done yet.

You would think so but we have been over alot of ground but most of this has been in one general area....all within 50 feet or so of each of the finds. Of course, we will be back at it as soon as weather and time permits. There may be lots more.....and maybe nothing....lets hope!

James: Very likely that coins were also hidden in the house, as well as other areas of the yard, masking will be a problem, due to the trash. Where the remains of the house were burned, you are likely to find charred coins or melted piles of silver, a rake and the whites 4 by 6 shooter coil will be very helpful to help you find more, also you may find gold coins or melted gold. good luck on the hunt Steve

Thank you very much! As you know...the hunt is the fun part so I wanted people to know what happened.

Comments like yours.....makes it all worth while!

We do know that there was a store there at some time and they sold general items....these could have been a part of the inventory. I cant imagine anyone forgetting/losing/misplacing/burying any of the coins, bar, books, etc etc and leaving it or forgetting about it...I would not do it but you know....things like this happen all the time, otherwise we wouldn't be doing this as there would be nothing to find. Who knows what happened to the owner and how long ago it was. Its a mystery!

I agree but maybe we got the ones in the house already? Or what appears to be the house. I did find a silver glob...if you want a pic ...I can post it on here too. We did find a few charred coins $ silver.
I thought the day after Thanksgiving when we went out.....I would find another roll of silver dollars.....I could taste it. It didn't happen and not much else did either. I'm surprised we didn't find anymore single dollars or halves but they just didn't jump out at us.

So, we will give it our best shot....maybe we will find little or nothing...and maybe a chest full of gold bars....That's the hunt! That's the fun!

now i know where i hid that silver... hee ! hee !!! congtas on the find, we have been on hold due to mioving to south , ca> so have lost a couple months.. all have a Great New year 2013....

One day someone will come back looking for their booty. They may be "up the river" doing some time.

Nice haul...it's what we all dream about!
