LOTS OF RINGS BUT NO CHAINS, HELP?

Over the past couple years with an excal Ive found 300+ rings and thousands of coins, but no gold chains. Are they that uncommon or am I missing them? The last time out I dug everything including the junk hits, but no gold chains yet. Maybe today's the day! Thanks.

Over the years i must not have found more than 10 chains or so over nearly 500 gold items. Most of those i got had still a small pendant on them so it helped my detector. If a chain breaks, you will feel it falling on you chest and start looking for it. If you had a ring for a long time, you wont notice it's gone and you dont need to break it in order to loose it... a little cream, cold water ...

:detecting: That is true and the fine ones are real hard to read. Bill in Texas

like trash if our detectors report them at all. Most detectors have a hard time with them with rare exception like the Tiger Shark and some of the gold units.

But once in a while....I'll come upon one that has been deposited in a wad or has an unusually large clasp and then, well, I just grin.

I really enjoy your posts. I think just puttin in the time in the water will reap the harvest you know so well. I hookah dive in shallow water and hope to pay for my unit within the first year.

Thanks for all your posts and photos.

Yes I agree with the ring ,,,,,,,cream,,,,,,,,,,cold water idea , I consider that I am a very "LUCKY" hunter because I tend to find more of the Bulky heavier style of rings , rather than the lighter gold like wedding bands ?
I consider that wedding bands become ( worn into the finger ) and possibly lost due to to cream, cold water, frizby throwing or just plain and simple wieght loss ?
I have also noticed when wearing some of my heavy ( Trophy ) rings , just how clumbsy and bulky they are thus understanding just how easy it would be to lose them especially whilst in the water ? !
I have found a few Blingy rings around the 30---35 gram ? and I consider that its only their shear bulk that attracts ( every metal detectorists best friend ) G R A V I T Y ! ! and before they know it some lucky Hunter has a Biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig smile on his or her face when we see gold in the bottom of our scoops

just an observation
happy hunting Tony Weston

take a small gold chain ( without the pendant ).... place it on the signal free ground and air test the detector ....... betcha ya don't hear anything .....don't know why this happens...... but this is why your not finding any gold chains....... it's been theorized by others in these columns that the detector only focuses on one of the links which are very small and not large enough to respond.......usually, when people do find gold chains,,,,, they have a pendant attached....the pendant being large enough to send the signal.....still others,,,,,,, say that a "negative" detector signal (discriminate null) is the secret to finding chains.... although,,,,,,I don't get a nulling on the air test.....my 2 cents......Gene

I have found 4 gold chains. Two because a nice gold cross was attached and 2 others because I was fanning another coin signal and the chains were right with the coin. They are scarce!!
