It was our July 1st Canada Day yesterday, so I got up early and hit the places where people watched the fireworks. Also included are a few other hubts from some areas which I regulariy hit. Little junk, as I have removed it in the past. Nice totals for 3 hunts. Going to make a nice contribution towards my annual gold coin.

I got a silver ring a few days ago, and today, along with a bunch of coins, I also got this cool Winchester pocket knife.

That's a lot of knee bends there John - You should be grateful that winter is approaching, let those knees recover some. (if you can limit your winter detector a little)

While I generally don't go out in search of clad / newer coins, I do find it nice when I'm able to quickly pick up loose nickels, dimes, quarters and such.

As for pennies (cents), our copper plated zinc cents have really become a nuisance as they quickly rot/dissolve/corrode and start showing up all over the midrange on the target ID scales) and nobody bothers picking them up anymore.

My Christmas wish is for the US to get rid of the zinc pennies (cents) completely and round transactions up/down to the nearest nickel AND to get rid of the $1 bills and replace them with $1 and $2 coins like Canada and Australia has. I can wish, right ?

I think Australia got rid of the 1¢ coin. Last I checked, Canada and the US were still 'minting' them. (is it really a minted item if it's a plated base metal that dissolves away if dropped on the ground?)

Anyway, looking forward to seeing what you select for your "Gold Coin" at the end of the year.

Hey John,

Those kneebends are still paying off -- keep it up! (… well ... keep bending it.)

That is a beautiful jackknife. If I found it, I'd put it to work peeling a spud or two before putting it into the trophy tray.

Here in Jacksonville, Florida we're starting to see just the opposite in weather … the days are finally starting to cool off, topping at the low 90s instead of getting into the 100s every day … good times are coming for going out with the GTI2500.

Cheers,

Joe
