lost treasure magazines?anyone use for research?

I never do. Don't even read them anymore. I did years ago but don't find much in them that interests me now. Even most of the reviews on equipment read more like paid endorsements than actual reviews imo. As far as using them for research of sites to search I wouldn't waste my time. I know the environments and places I search and the techniques that I use and that have proven themselves over and over for me. If you're going to hunt beaches and saltwater then learning how to read these areas is probably the most important step. Then learning your equipment and how to search and recover from those areas and a healthy dose of luck from time to time will produce many hours of enjoyment and good finds. Read the mags if they give you enjoyment but learn to do your own research on site. This is just my take on things from over 30 years of hunting, first as a relic hunter and now a beach hunter. Not once has a magazine contributed to anything I have found. They are good at enticing people into the hobby, though. I love the way they show all those piles of fantastic loot at the feet of someone posed (never dirty, always squeaky clean, lol) with the latest metal detector and a tiny little hand scoop or digger.

I will agree with the entertainment part of your post if it gives you that. I used to read them for entertainment and for equipment reviews until it dawned on me that the reviews were of no use to me. As far as search sites go, I have more knowledge about what I want to find and where I'm likely to find it than any magazine. Sorry, that's not being negative, that's being truthful. If you're fairly new to this hobby then I'm sure the magazines are very appealing. If you ask those who have been doing this for a long time my guess is that few, if any, of them read them anymore. But hey, maybe I'm wrong. This is, after all, jmo.,

well i can't say i found el dorado...lol
but mags are fun to read...learning alot of new/old terminology......
kinda like an old grade school primer for new hunters...
pics of other folks finds are cool...
learning new techniques.....new possible areas to hunt....for 30 bucks i got 100 plus mags from the 1990's to now....
so if nothing else i have several hours of fun reading.....
my four year old has been watching me try to learn my new hobby....
been letting her hunt with me and she trys to use daddy's ''metal protector'' as she calls it......
[she uses it better than me too]lol

I subscribed for a year and have found LT to be worthless. It seem's to be filled with legends and there has yet to be an article remotely related to anything in my neck of the woods. It could just be me though, maybe others like it.
I enjoy American Digger magazine. I am going to give Eastern and Western Treasures a try next.
