Lost mines etc

I have been researching lost treasure in the Pacific NW and learned of legends of two lost mines in an area where I have frequented. The rock formations in this region, as far as I remember, are basalt rock. It was my understanding that gold ore is usually quartz. I have seen veins of quartz in basalt, so how likely is a person to find gold in basalt formations?

Both of the lost mines are within 25-35 miles of each other and I would really like to find both, extract the gold and buy my own private island in the South Pacific and retire. Any help any of you can provide would be appreciated.

Ok, none of you know anything about hard rock gold mining it seams. I was going to offer a free week's stay on my private island and free transportation to and from the island to those that helped me find the lost mines.

Oh well, I guess I'll have to settle on the company of lovely Polynesian girls instead.

gold can be found in most any rock formation but true quartz is usuly the main area but in nature alls possible so check it out and ill take that vacation thank you:crazy:

Mark I live in the Great PNW and it ain't all basalt. You don't usualy have to go to aful many miles in any direction to get to a real good change of scenery.

Don't forget the glaciers and floods that came through this part of the country. Not all mining is hardrock!

Been a lot of gold found in the PNW

If you are near Spokane I will help you with That Island.

I want to find the Lost Skeleton Mine and the Lost Spaniard Mine. They are supposed to be between Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Adams.

Have you ever looked for the Steptoe (Sp?) treasure?

Hadn't heard of the Steptoe treasure. I'll have to look into that a bit.

I have read there are other lost mines down in that general vacinity. Man there is a LOT of teritory in that area.

Good Luck

Maybe I misspoke. Perhaps I was simply thinking of the battlefield relics.
Here is a link to some info about treasure in Washington State.

The Gifford Pinchot National Forest is indeed HUGE and it appears as though there may some some gold in there. I have been camping there for about 30 years and never thought of looking for gold etc. That will be on my "to-do" list for next summer.

It is a state park now I think. So I am not sure. Yes there was a hotel several generations ago.

What are the state park regs?

Jeff

For Washington state, here is the law:
