Losing FE-CO on Targets

LowGrowlSal

New member
I generally hunt by sound, but sometimes need to check FE-CO on a target. I am noticing when sweeping over targets, I am losing my FE-CO numbers. I physically need to set the coil to the side for them to come up. Any thoughts on settings that can fix this issue? Thanks!

Well, the E-Trac is a motion detector. If you make small sweeps over a target or stop the coil, the TID can and will disappear. Similarly, with target depth reading, if you don't sweep so that the signal peaks to the maximum and falls off then it won't display depth. You can't just have peak-peak-peak. The detector needs to isolate the target so that the signal has a Low-Peak-Low curve. Then the TID will work and the depth reading will return. You can make small sweeps over the target center and still get a reading, in fact that is preferred to avoid nearby ferrous from interfering with the reading. But you've gotta allow the target signal to be isolated. A cluster of junk targets and nails under the coil at once can provide constant peak signals that will not return to threshold level - and you are likely to lose both TID and depth until threshold can return, if only for a moment. In some cases a smaller coil is the best answer. Less junk under the coil for better target separation.
