Loosing Pro Pointer

Do any of you loose your pro pointer?

I have walked away from mine a few times and had to go hunting for it. I need a tether of some kind. Does anyone have any idea how to put one on them? It seems like Garrett would think of a way to put an eye on them or something.

My Garrett digger I drilled a hole in it up close to the handle and put a piece of thin line on it with a loop on one end to put on my belt.

No, I don't lose mine. However, if you do a search on ebay for "Garrett Pro Pointer Security Washer", you'll see what you are looking for.
You might have to contact Garrett directly to find a source for one by itself, though.

Good luck

This is the route I took to help secure my Pro pointer probe from getting lost.

I made a ring that fits under the cap on the pointer out of 300 stainless steel and tethered the ring/probe to my finds bag with about 3 feet of 80lb. braided fishing line and a heavy duty swivel clip.

In order to make the probe more visible and cut down some on the volume of the probes alarm, I used a few turns of yellow electrical tape over the alarm opening. In the future for added strength and wear resistance I intend to try a length of kevlar line in lieu of the 80lb. line fishing line.

One would think that the tether would be a constant bother by getting tangled and or hung up on one thing or another, but so far I've found that not to be the case. But then again I don't do as much deep woods/brush hunting as I used to.

Nice job knarfj,

Thanks! Appreciate the complement.

Sure looks like the ticket. Will have to check it out.

I drilled a small hole in the battery compartment on the side that's open and away from the battery, and attached a coiled key lanyard with a small, self tapping screw. Other end of the lanyard has a snap link that hooks on a belt loop or whatever's handy. If you try to wander off without putting it in the belt pouch, it bounces along the ground with you.

I brighten mine up to make it hard to walk away from. The duct tape comes from Wal-mart.

Tabman - you may walk away from that, but you sure as the devil should be able to see it as soon as you look, LOL.

So far I have not gotten up from retrieving a target without putting the Pro Pointer back in the holster. I did dip the end of the pointer in RED Plastil Dip. Makes it a nice bright red and protects the tip from wear.

You don't need the washer thing costing $15! Just use a fairly strong cord material and make a loop around the diameter of the threads on the battery cover and sock it on. Compression does the rest. I ain't paying 15 bucks for a 2c item.

Hey Tab,

How about a little Glow-in-the-Dark Paint just to cover all the bases! :poke::heh:

The Bullseye has space in the case so I just drilled a hole through it and ran a piece of parachute cord through it.
Clips to a ring on my belt. I paint all my field equipment with some type of fluorescent paint. Make it easy to spot and identify.

Well I just came up with an idea today. The players club type of casino cards work real neet. You don't have to buy them and they even come with a tether. I cut out a hole just a wee bit larger than the cap of the pin pointer and then cut it to shape did a little sanding and saved myself some coin. I think that motel card keys would also work because they don't have raised letters and numbers and besides they don't have tethers. Happy hunting all.

Great idea!
I have a purpose built metal one on my pointer, but have no lanyard. Going to the casino is a great idea. Also, I had to replace the pad inside the cap with a larger pad to hold the battery tight against the contacts.

Had a Sears digger once and lost it in an acre spread.....My hunting buddy and I looked for a good hour and it is still gone...lol...I have some bright tape on all tools now...looks a little strange but you can find it...

What did you use for a pad? I was thinking of a cabinet door bumper.
