loose rod shaft for XS

I am having problems w/my Explorer XS's lower and upper shafts coming loose as I swing. This happens (or I realise it) after 1Hr. Any fix?

I had the same problem, sent it in. The perminent fix is to send the upper rod back to the factory for modification. On a tempory basis you can cut a large rubberband in half. Slide one end down the center of the rod and let the otherside dangle outside then install into the case. Works for a while. Anothger thing to look at is the cam lock pin. It is a brass colored pin holding the cam lock. Sometimes it comes loose and can be easly tapped back into place with a small nail. Good luck.

Never heard of the lower rod sliding...might be a camlock malfunction newer XS middle rod models had a nipple on it that held it firm and understand factory will modify older middle rods to have this nipple. Indeed might exam the camlock on the bottom for a loose pin that sometimes seems to slip to one side and may alter the camlocks ability to hold...

I had the same problem. When I installed the X-1 probe, with the new shaft, the lower shaft would come loose. I found that it was spongey and didn't lock. Now when I close the camlock, I push or pull slightly on the lower shaft, and it clicks shut and holds tight. Hope this helps. Other wise, if you have an extra shaft, you can remove the camlock of the spare shaft and replace your trouble one.

The actual Cam is black plastic and if you look you will see that it can show signs of wear on the inside face.
Apart from sending it in for replacement I obtained a very thin piece of plastic (1/32") about the same density cut it to the size of the metal plate that the pastic cam presses against and closed the cam lock.
This made up the difference with the wear on the cam ant cured the problem,
It does no harm to place a ring of electrical tape around the cam so that it cannot easily open again accidently I suppose a plastice tie would do the same thing and keep the cam lever down tight.
I hope this tip helps some of you Jerry.
