Loose lower CTX shafts

D&P-OR

Well-known member
My wife & I both got CTX's & like them fine, great detectors----except---the lower shafts are loose on both of them.---We are easy on our detectors & take good care of them but I noticed tonight my wifes coil was out of alignment with the machine & upon checking, seen the shaft was loose from the camlock not tightening enough.---I then checked my CTX & it was the same way.---There is enough looseness & wiggle on the shafts to put the coil out of alignment with the machine.-----Anybody else had this problem & if so, what's the answer to a remedy for it?----The camlocks just aren't locking tight enough on the lower shafts.--------Del

After reading every problem the CTX ever had or was imagined to have, this is s first. Almost all 'shaft' complaints are because they are too tight. I have to thinks there is a some sort of assembly issue and not the shafts or the locks. I would take them apart, the shafts, and ensure they are inserted the correct way. How about some pics of the shafts, the coil attach area and the loks? I would like to know what is causing that, but again, I suspect some sort of assembly issue.

I have the same problem with mine.

Guys----I dis-mantled my wifes CTX & put it back together again & traced the problem down to the shaft isolator, it's looser than a goose.----The isolator is that piece that affixes to the lower shaft that the coil attaches to.----It has a rivot (of sorts) on the bottom of the isolator that attaches it to the shaft & in addition, I think it is basically (supposed to be glued to the shaft--the isolator).---That is the whole problem & I will be contacting my dealer & Minelab about it.---The camlock is ok.-----Altamaha---check that isolator piece on your lower shaft---I'll bet you a dime to a donut that's where your problem is also.---------Del

Mine did the same thing, if I understand, and I put a little glue on it and all way fine.. I think that maybe there wasn't enough used when they were put together... Richard

first loose rod

To square the control screen with the coil unlock the cam lock extend the rod to the desired length then place the coil on the ground..
You may have to place your foot on the coil to assure that you keep it at the desired length...
Then twist the detector to align the screen with the coil and engage the cam-lock..
This will address the alignment problem...

If the rod isn't inserted in the correct orientation during assembly it will cause it to be loose...
Good luck, hope this will help..

I think the issue as it was described, was not a loose lower shaft but where the coil attaches to the lower shaft was loose. I also had a similar situation when I was moving the lower shaft in and out and the coil mounting sleeve came off. I used gorilla glue on it after roughing up the lower part of the lower shaft and inside the coil sleeve. No problem now.

The sales guys at Gorilla glue should be calling Minelab! I have had similar problems with my Sovereign and Excalibur shafts and a couple drps of Gorilla glue fixed them permenantly.

Yes, that was the problem--the mounting sleeve (isolator) on the bottom of the lower shaft (where the coil mounts) came completely loose on the shaft----In fact the isolator/mounting sleeve came completely off my wifes CTX lower shaft.-----I re-glued it with an excellent glue as my dealer suggested & my dealer said it wouldn't effect the warranty, me doing that.-----Anyway, it's solid as a rock on the shaft now.-----I initially thought the play was coming from a loose camlock but found out the isolator coming unglued was the problem.-----I think Minelab needs to get a new glue supplier or do a better job of gluing the isolator to the shaft as I have found out this has happened to others as well.-------This problem has nothing to do with a loose camlock or not lining the shaft up properly in the camlock.---------Del
