Looks like the best coil for the Cortes.............

...................is the 7 inch concentric....in my areas. (Up here in the great NorthWest). Even though I have the 5.75 compared to the 7 inch it is definitely not as deep, yet the 7 inch is still excellent in trashy sites. It also handles the mineral content of the soil quite well. The first week I used it I even found a 14K gold chain with it. I know this coil has been around for a long time but don't underestimate it, it is a solid performer. And not having a hole in the center is great when your hunting in brush......................take a second look at this coil!!! Thanks for listening.

for full-time use, I agree with you, the 7" concentric is a great way to go. I opted for the 7" coil back when I swapped it from my Mayan to my Inca. I also preferred the 7" concentric on my Royal Sabre, then Eldorado (original), Bandido's (all four models), Silver Sabre II & Silver Sabre

Now i wonder if I should be a 2-coil package guy, or move to a 3-coil level.... Hummm.. always something to think about.

on any dealers website or even at the Tesoro website.

I just checked Tesoro site and they list the 7 inch coil in both concentric and widescan.

$89. Is that the one with 5 pins cable connector for the Cortes.

4RC 4" round concentric (closed center, white)
7RC 7" round concentric (closed center, white)
7RW 7" round wide scan (closed center, white)
8RC 8" round concentric (open center, brown)
8.5RW 8-1/2" round wide scan (closed center, white)
10.5RC 10-1/2" round concentric (open center, white)
11RW 11" round wide scan (closed center, white)
12x10 12x10" concentric (spoked, white)

are the coils listed on page 33 in the Cortes manual.

no scientific evidence that the 7" concentric coil does better than the 9 x 8" concentric or that it is better at ID'ing. He did say smaller is better in trashy places. Guess I'll stick with the 9 x 8 for now.

what I have said. And yes, the tech does say it's better in trashy ground than the larger standard coil. And that's my point. I don't know about you ....but in my case, the areas I hunt are littered with trash!! I think that's true for most hunt sites...........I'm convinced that weather you use a Whites , Minelab , Tesoro or any other brand........if you are not hunting wide open; lower trash areas .....you are using the wrong coil if it's the stock coil. You can simply put too many items under the coil at any one time, and this doesn't help productivity. Monte is one example that I would point you to...................he rarely uses the stock coil. In my experiences I use the stock coil for wide open dry sand hunting. The 7 inch coil totally outperforms my stock coil in most parks/sports fields. Just my 5 cents worth.
