Lookout point over cliff.

I'm about to go hunting for old US coins and junk near a US barracks from after WWII. What areas should I search more in and around lookout trenches near the edge of a plateau or cliff? Last year I found a soldier's chapstick from the 40's and there is still wax in it.

Did 2 lookout points and found nothing. Absolutely nothing. I found some pieces of barbed wire near the sites, but that's it...
