Looking to photograph some relics...Help!

Need to take some photos of my relics and was wondering if someone could give me some basic set up ideas, digital camera settings, etc. Any info would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

Well I'm no expert I use a DSC W5 digital it has zoom and lighting feature,I have overhead light also just try to not get reflections I use white background depending on the colors try different backgrounds and see what shows best

A lot depends on the relic. You can photograph with a flash straight on and get a picture. You could bounce the flash or put a softbox on the flash to soften the light and even the illumination out. You could change the angle of the light to show off the character of the relic as well as the releaf details (say on a coin).

Main thing is play. Take a look at the pictures you like. Examine where the light comes from. The quality of the light (is it direct, soft, harsh?). And then try to recreate a similar shot yourself. An inexpensive softbox you can put on your flash makes a difference. If you have an on-camera flash, play with a white handkerchief over the flash to see how that can soften and even the light out.
