I have a SUNRAY X8 if you should decide on the Sunray 8" coil.
The Sunray 8" coil is lighter and larger then the Minelab 8" coil.
Do a search on this forum and the Explorer forum ( coil,8" coil, sunray,Minelab) .You'll find a lot of info about coils.

....that you thought I was trying to humiliate you in my other message about your coil purchase. Heck, everyone knows that lots of people love to bid and win items on eBay, regardless of whether they are saving anything, just like in the public auctions. It does make it hard on those of us trying to save a few dollars but surely pleases the sellers. Since the going rate of the 8" coil with rod is a public fact, I assumed that you were in the hunt just for the thrill of it. My message was intended for others wanting to save some money because, as I pointed out, even I probably paid more than I should have considering what the prices will be later in the year. Any if it makes you feel better, and I hope it does, I once bid so much for [and won] an article from an early 19th century magazine that the seller E-mailed me afterwards asking why I was willing to pay so much. He was very honest and said he wanted to know so that he could locate similar articles that would command high prices. True, it was a one-of-a-kind article, but I paid the high price because I mistakenly thought it would give me some new leads on a treasure that I have been researching for years. But of course, I didn't tell him that. As I recall, I think I told him simply that I was a history buff. Anyhow, happy hunting to both of us when our new coils arrive!

I mistakenly thought it would give me some new good leads. Turned out to be a big (and expensive)mistake.
